Sabres’ Josh Dunne to miss 4-6 weeks with injury

The Buffalo Sabres will be without forward Josh Dunne for the next four-to-six weeks due to a mid-body injury, head coach Lindy Ruff told reporters Wednesday.

It’s not clear how he sustained the injury, but he played in the team’s game against the Florida Panthers on Monday, finishing with five penalty minutes through a fighting major against Panthers’ defender Donovan Sebrango.
Through 28 games this season, Dunne has one goal and three assists for four points and 34 penalty minutes. Now in his fourth season, the forward has one goal and three assists for four points and 49 penalty minutes with the Sabres and Columbus Blue Jackets.
Dunne also appeared in parts of six seasons in the AHL, where he scored 47 goals and 48 assists for 95 points and 198 penalty minutes in 204 regular-season games.
Before turning pro, Dunne spent three seasons playing college hockey with Clarkson University. In 78 career NCAA games, he scored 29 goals and 26 assists for 55 points. He also spent parts of four seasons with the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers, where he recorded 34 goals and 40 assists for 74 points in 140 career regular-season games.
The Sabres are 24-16-4 with 52 points through 44 games in 2025-26, sixth in the Atlantic Division and one point back of a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Forward Tage Thompson leads the team in goals and points with 22 and 42, respectively. Meanwhile, defenseman Rasmus Dahlin has a team-leading 26 assists.
Goaltender Alex Lyon has a 10-6-3 record in 21 appearances with a .906 save percentage and 1.6 goals saved above expected, while Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has a 9-6-1 in 16 games has a .904 SV% and 1.7 GSAx.
