Burns dual-eligibility lands him on the DF Team of the Week

Don’t look now but the Fantasy season is already nearing its end. There are only six weeks left in the NHL regular season, meaning your fantasy playoffs will start in the next couple of weeks. Four of the six players on this weeks DailyFaceoff Team of the Week could be Free Agents in your league. Take a good luck at these players because they could be valuable assets for a playoff push. Remember this team will be based off of the usual fantasy scoring categories and players that excelled across the board. Skaters – (G, A, +/-, SOG, GWG, SHG, PPP) Goalies – (W, GAA, SV%, SO)

C – Kyle Turris – Ottawa Senators

Turris had a strong week this past week. Ottawa had four games on the schedule so their players were very useful this week. Turris managed to net four goals, two assists with 11 SOG and one game-winning goal. The strong week pushed his numbers to eight goals and 11 assists in 28 games this season. With the Senators two leading scorers from last season (Karlsson and Spezza) out of the lineup with injury, Turris has stepped up and his 19 points leads the team. He is owned in 58.9% of ESPN leagues so there is a good chance he could be available. With him playing 20+ minutes on most nights, he could be serviceable center for the remainder of the season.

LW – Curtis Glencross – Calgary Flames 

Glencross missed two games in row including the first game of the week with an upper-body injury. He was a game-time decision for Wednesday’s game but ended up playing and recording a goal and an assist with a plus-3 and three shots. On Saturday vs. Nashville he scored a hat-trick  on four shots. Glencross had an impressive 5 points, plus-5 and one GWG in just two games this week. He is one of the best forwards in Calgary so he is receiving a plenty of chances to produce. He is owned in 28.5% of ESPN leagues, so if you’re in need of a LW, he could be your guy.

RW – Chris Stewart – St. Louis Blues

The 25-year-old scored 28 goals and 36 assists in 77 games with the Colorado Avalanche in 2009-10. In his first two seasons in St. Louis he only scored 53 points in 106 games. However so far this season he has re-discovered his scoring touch. This week Stewart led all players in the NHL with seven points in three games. He had five goals (2 GWG), two assists with a plus-5. He has brought his totals to 14 goals and 14 assists in 28 games this season. Last season he had 15 and 15 in 78 games.

D – Brent Burns – San Jose Sharks

We all know that Burns is a talented player, but it is his inability to stay healthy that worries fantasy owners. This week the Sharks decided to put the offensive-defenseman on forward. He started out on the third line, but halfway through his first game he was bumped up to the top-line with Joe Thornton and Logan Couture. He is also featured on the point on the Sharks second power-play unit. This move skyrockets Burns’ fantasy value. Having a first-line forward in a defense slot is incredibly valuable. He had two goals, two assists with a plus-2, nine shots and one power-play point. He is owned in just 44.7% on ESPN leagues, so if he is available you should definitely pick him up and ride the hot streak, and hope he stays healthy.

D – Ryan Suter – Minnesota Wild

It cost the Minnesota Wild $98-Million to bring Suter to town, but so far he has been worth every penny. He had a slow start in his new home but has picked it up as of late. This week Suter scored once but had four assists and a plus-3 in three games. The goal was just his second of the season but he now has 21 assists. His 23 points is one ahead of fellow newcomer and friend Zach Parise for the team lead. The Wild have played much better lately so expect Suter to continue his great season.

G – Jake Allen – St. Louis Blues

There were three great goalie performances this week (Bobrovsky – 1-0-2, 0,67 GAA, .983 SV% , 1 SO – Fleury – 3-0-0, 1.00 GAA and .956 SV%, 1 SO) but it was ultimately Allen who was the top goalie. Allen was 3-0-0 with a 1.00 GAA and .969 SV% with one shutout. He has now won all five starts he has made since being recalled. His numbers on the season now sit at 8-1-0 with a 2.19 GAA and .920 SV%. The 22-year-old is owned in 47.7 % of ESPN leagues, so if he is available, pick him up. He has not given the Blues any reason not to play him, so he should see the majority of the starts in the immediate future. Ride the hot-streak.
