By the numbers: How COVID-19 affected the NHL


COVID-19 caught many off guard, and that included the NHL, who suspended the 2019-20 season on March 12, 2020.
Over the past 473 days since, the NHL has completed 1,077 games.
According to the NHL, they have administered over 350,000 COVID tests to players and staff, with 119 confirmed positives and 217 players being placed on the COVID protocols list in that time.
The NHL’s highest single-day total of the COVID list was 59 on February 12th, when the Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, and Philadelphia Flyers all had numerous players on the protocols list.
The NHL had a total of 12 team shutdowns, 55 games postponed, and 132 games that had to be rescheduled.
The league also says they had 12 COVID Protocols adopted for the 2020-21 season with more than two dozen updates/enhancements since Jan. 13.
