Cal Foote signs one-year deal with Swedish team Färjestad
Sweden’s Färjestad BK announced Tuesday they signed former NHL defenseman Cal Foote to a one-year deal through the 2026-27 campaign.
Foote, 27, spent last season with the Chicago Wolves, the AHL affiliate for the Carolina Hurricanes, where he scored four goals and added 14 assists for 18 points in 48 regular-season games. He also recorded three goals and eight assists for 11 points in 21 AHL playoff games, helping lead the team to the Calder Cup Final. They would lose to the Toronto Marlies in five games.
Across seven AHL seasons with the Wolves, Utica Comets and Syracuse Crunch, Foote has 24 goals and 67 assists for 91 points in 227 regular-season games. He’s also appeared in 32 Calder Cup Playoff games, where he posted four goals and nine assists for 13 points.
In parts of four NHL campaigns, the Denver, Colo., native had five goals and 15 assists for 20 points in 145 career regular-season games.
Foote also played in 13 career NHL playoff games. Despite not dressing in a playoff game during the Tampa Bay Lightning’s 2021 Stanley Cup run, his name was added to the trophy.
Foote was one of the five members of the 2018 Canadian National Junior Team who were charged with sexual assault in reference to an incident in London, Ont., a few months after the team won the gold medal at that year’s IIHF World Junior Championship.
Foote, along with Dillon Dubé, Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, and Michael McLeod, was found not guilty.
Foote was taken No. 14 overall pick by the Lightning in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. He spent three seasons playing with the Western Hockey League’s Kelowna Rockets, scoring 33 goals and 130 assists for 163 points in 202 regular-season games. Ahead of the 2017-18 season, he was named captain of the Rockets.
