Flames to sign Alex Nylander to PTO

The Calgary Flames are expected to sign forward Alex Nylander to a professional tryout, PuckPedia reported Tuesday night.

The 28-year-old forward spent the 2025-26 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs’ AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, where he scored 24 goals and reached career highs with 29 assists and 53 points in 65 regular-season games.

He also added six goals and an assist for seven points in 24 AHL playoff games, helping the Marlies win the Calder Cup championship.

Across eight AHL seasons, Nylander has 141 goals and 166 assists for 307 points in 459 career regular-season games. He’s also got 10 goals and four assists for 14 points in 35 career Calder Cup Playoff games.

Nylander last saw NHL action in 2024-25 with Toronto. In 126 career regular-season games, he’s recorded 25 goals and 24 assists for 49 points with the Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets, Pittsburgh Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks and Buffalo Sabres.

The right-handed winger was taken by the Sabres with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. In his lone junior season in North America, Nylander recorded 28 goals and 47 assists for 75 points in 57 games with the Ontario Hockey League’s Mississauga Steelheads.

In the previous season, he dressed for AIK Jr. in Sweden’s developmental league, where he scored 15 goals and added 25 assists for 40 points in 42 games.

The Flames finished the 2025-26 regular season with a 34-39-9 record and 77 points, which ranked seventh in the Pacific Division and 13 points back of the second Wildcard spot in the Western Conference.

Forward Matt Coronato led Calgary in points with 45 (18 goals and 27 assists) while center Morgan Frost had a team-leading 22 goals.
