Calgary Flames claim Radim Zohorna off waivers from Pittsburgh Penguins

The Calgary Flames have claimed forward Radim Zohorna off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins, the club announced Monday.
Zohorna, 26, split the 2021–22 season between the NHL and AHL Penguins. He’s under contract at a $750,000 NHL cap hit through the end of the 2022–23 season, at which time he will become an unrestricted free agent.
The 6’6″, 220-pound winger scored two goals and six points in 17 games with Pittsburgh to go along with 12 goals and 21 points in 39 AHL games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

— Calgary Flames (@NHLFlames) October 3, 2022Undrafted into the NHL, Zohorna signed with the Penguins as a free agent from the Czech Extraliga prior to the 2020–21 season.
Zohorna debuted with the Penguins in 2020–21, scoring two goals and four points in eight games. He also registered three goals and 11 points in 12 AHL games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton that season.
With Zohorna now in the fold, the Flames have 29 players — including 16 forwards — at training camp. The big Czech winger should compete with Cody Eakin, Sonny Milano, Kevin Rooney, Trevor Lewis, Brett Ritchie, and Adam Ruzicka for a job with the Flames in 2022–23.
Zohorna and goaltender Magnus Hellberg (from Seattle to Ottawa) were the only players claimed off the waiver wire on Monday.
