Flames sign coach Ryan Huska to two-year extension

The Calgary Flames have signed head coach Ryan Huska to a two-year extension through the 2027-28 season, the organization announced on Thursday.
Huska is entering his third season as the Flames head coach, having led the team to a 79-66-19 record through his time as bench boss, missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs by just a single point in 2024-25.
The 50-year-old has been in the Flames coaching ranks for 11 years, initially joining the AHL’s Adirondack Flames in the 2014-15 season as head coach, before sticking with the AHL organization through its time in Stockton until 2018.
Huska joined the Flames as an assistant coach in 2018 and was named the 24th head coach in franchise history ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.
“We’re thrilled to extend Ryan for two more years,” Flames general manager Craig Conroy said. “He’s done an excellent job creating a strong culture in our room and helping our team take steps in the right direction. His communication, work ethic, and commitment to developing our players have been outstanding. We believe in his vision and are confident he’s the right coach to lead us forward.”
Outside of his NHL and AHL coaching career, Huska held assistant and head coaching roles with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League, helping to lead them to four Memorial Cup appearances, winning the CHL title in 2004.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue leading this team and to build on the foundation we’ve started,” said Huska. “I believe in this group, in their character, talent, and potential. I’m excited about the direction we are heading. I want to thank Craig, the ownership, and the entire organization for their trust and support. We are committed to pushing forward and bringing success back to Calgary.”
The Flames will look to qualify for the playoffs for the first time under Huska in the 2025-26 season and open their regular season campaign against the Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 8.
