Flames sign RFA center Morgan Frost to two-year contract

The Calgary Flames have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with restricted free agent forward Morgan Frost, according to multiple reports.
Frost, 26, collected 14 goals and 37 points in 81 games split between the Flames and Philadelphia Flyers in the 2024-25 regular season.
Vancouver hockey insider Rick Dhaliwal was the first to indicate on Wednesday that the Flames and Frost were closing in on a new deal, with PuckPedia confirming the details shortly thereafter.
Frost’s new deal carries a $4.375 million cap hit and runs through the 2026-27 season, after which the 6’0″ centre will be eligible to test unrestricted free agency.

The Flames originally acquired Frost from the Flyers midway through the 2024-25 season in a major deal that also saw Joel Farabee head to Calgary in exchange for Jakob Pelletier, Andrei Kuzmenko, and a 2025 second-round pick (Shane Vansaghi).
Frost struggled to produce immediately after the trade, collecting three goals and 12 points in 32 games, but the Flames are banking on a significant improvement upon his paltry 5.2 shooting percentage in his first tour of duty.
A first-round pick (No. 27 overall) of the Flyers in 2017, Frost spent his junior career with the OHL’s Soo Greyhounds and made his NHL debut with Philadelphia in the 2019-20 season.
Frost firmly established himself as a middle-six NHL player in the 2022-23 season, setting career highs with 19 goals and 46 points in 81 games. He surpassed the 40-point mark again in 2023-24 and was on track to do it again before being traded to Calgary in January.
With Frost now under contract, the Flames only have five RFAs left to negotiate with this summer: Connor Zary, Rory Kerins, Sam Morton, Jeremie Poirier, and Yan Kuznetsov. The club previously agreed to terms with pending RFA defenseman Kevin Bahl on a six-year deal worth $5.35 million per season.
