Canucks looking to make upgrades on blueline

While we’re still a couple of months away from the trade deadline, the Vancouver Canucks seem to be closing in on making some moves now.
The reigning Pacific Division champions got off to a sluggish start, by their standards, this season and have hardly been playing like a team battling for first place in the Western Conference as they did during the 2023-24 season. Currently, Vancouver is fourth in the Pacific, six points behind the Vegas Golden Knights for first place. The Canucks do hold the first Wild Card spot in the West, by only one point.
One aspect of the Canucks they could improve on is their defense. While they have experienced blueliners in Tyler Myers and Carson Soucy, along with their talented captain, Quinn Hughes, the Canucks don’t necessarily have the depth to make them a defensive juggernaut and a true Cup contender.
On Wednesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli explains how the Canucks are looking to add defensemen.
Frank Seravalli: I’m told the Canucks feel like they made some progress in their search for an impact defenseman and an efficient puck mover. There seems to be a heightened sense of urgency in the last 24 to 48 hours as to whether or not they might even be able to get something done before the trade freeze kicks at midnight on Thursday. They’re up against the clock. I’m not going to guarantee it’s going to happen, but they think that they’ve made some progress here. I don’t even have a team or a player to pinpoint yet, but certainly on alert with the Canucks that that’s been their mission since training camp on is to add that piece. They’re one of the most aggressive front offices in the league, if not the most the most aggressive. So, stay tuned.
