The Colorado Avalanche turned heads around the hockey world on Tuesday when they officially announced the arrival of a throwback Quebec Nordiques jersey.

There had been signs that this was coming, notably Nordiques pants hanging from stalls in the team’s locker room before a recent game.

With the official unveiling, the Avalanche wasted no time in revealing the games on the schedule in which the team will be donning the throwback look.

Their debut will come against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night, and when the teams take the ice, Colorado will not be the only team repping the previous identity of its franchise.

The Hurricanes announced in a post on X that they will be wearing their white Hartford Whalers uniforms for Thursday’s game to make it a throwback-on-throwback affair.

The two teams will also wear their respective jerseys in the return game at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh on January 3. Carolina will also don Whalers uniforms for its annual Whalers Night on January 29 against the Utah Mammoth.

Under the ownership of Tom Dundon, the Hurricanes have recognized the franchise’s history as the Whalers by wearing various throwback uniforms inspired by Hartford’s looks on occasion since the 2018-2019 season.

This is not the first time the Avalanche have dipped into their Quebec City roots, either. In the first edition of Adidas’ “Reverse Retro” jerseys, Colorado wore a white uniform with Nordiques insignia and modern Avalanche accent colors.

The Avs also announced a Heritage Series schedule that revealed the other dates that fans will have the opportunity to see the jerseys in person.

Aside from the two games against Carolina, they include November 29 against Montreal, January 12 against Toronto, March 16 against Pittsburgh, April 1 against Vancouver and April 11 against Vegas.
