Carolina Hurricanes D Dougie Hamilton out after breaking leg against Columbus
Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Dougie Hamilton will be missing an undetermined amount of time after suffering a broken leg Thursday night, according to team reporter Michael Smith.
The injury happened when Hamilton got tied up with Columbus Blue Jackets F Kevin Stenlund falling awkwardly into the boards with 16 seconds left in the second period.
Dougie Hamilton suffered a broken left fibula Thursday night in Columbus. He's being evaluated by #Canes doctors and could undergo a procedure as early as today. A further update and recovery timeline will be known this evening.

Hamilton’s left leg got pinned underneath him in the process.
On pace for a career year, Hamilton has played in a career-high 23:17 per game this season scoring 40 points (14 g, 26a) in 47 games this year. The rearguard was only one week away from his first NHL all-star appearance but will be replaced by teammate Jaccob Slavin.
Hamilton ranks second in goals, fourth in points, and is tied for seventh in assists with all NHL defencemen.
Acquired from the Calgary Flames in June 2018 along with teammate Michael Ferland and prospect Adam Fox, Hamilton has come into his own with the Hurricanes this season. He saw a big jump in his statistics having scored 18-21–39 in 82 games last season.
Another update on Hamilton’s prognosis is expected Friday.
