Why the Hurricanes, Red Wings would be a good fit for Vincent Trocheck

When New York Rangers general manager Chris Drury penned a letter to the fans back in January announcing the team’s intention to “retool”, it set the expectation for the Rangers to be major sellers leading up to March 6th’s trade deadline. Since then, Drury has followed through on his implicit promise, shipping out star winger Artemi Panarin and defenseman Carson Soucy for future assets.
The next big trade piece on New York’s roster is center Vincent Trocheck, who is in the fourth season of a seven-year, $39.38 million deal. Trocheck, who can submit a 12-team no-trade list to the Rangers, has aleady announced his preference to stay in the Eastern Conference if dealt. Teams looking to acquire the 32-year-old pivot will have to figure out not only if he is a fit for them, but if they are a fit for him.
On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, hosts Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discussed which teams could be logical suitors for Trocheck ahead of the trade deadline.
Tyler Yaremchuk: The chat says Trocheck to Detroit, and I agree with that one. I had the Detroit Red Wings as my pick. I think Steve Yzerman is going to angle more towards the veteran leadership side of things, someone who can slot right below Dylan Larkin and eat up some tough matchups. Trocheck’s that guy. Who did you have as your fit for Trocheck?
Carter Hutton: So everyone knows, Ty got to pick his teams first, and I had to counteract that. I went with Carolina, just because he talked about staying on the East. When you look at an Eastern Conference where it seems like it’s Tampa Bay and Carolina’s to win, is there a potential for him to go there and add some depth to a team that isn’t really great up the middle? Sebastian Aho carries a lot of that weight. Maybe he can help out in that sense, and he’s a two-way player that can complement anybody on that team. He can play up and down your lineup, he gets points, he can penalty kill, he can kind of do it all. I think he fits the mold of what Rod Brind’Amour wants.
