Hurricanes select Ivan Ryabkin No. 62 overall in 2025 NHL Draft

The Carolina Hurricanes selected Russian forward Ivan Ryabkin with the 62nd overall pick on Saturday at The Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
Ryabkin began the year in Russia, playing for MHK Dynamo Moskva in the MHL, where he tallied 12 points in 15 games, including 11 assists. Ryabkin saw some limited action in the VHL and the KHL as well, appearing in just two professional games with Dynamo Moskva.
Rumours began circulating that Ryabkin was headed to North America early on in the season. On Dec. 31, the Muskegon Lumberjacks made the signing official, landing the Russian centre. The hope in Muskegon was that Ryabkin would realize his incredibly high potential now that he was playing more minutes and no longer under constant threat of being switched to another team. In his first game, he scored twice, including the game-tying goal that sent it to overtime.
Throughout his time there, Ryabkin racked up 19 goals and 11 assists for 30 points in 27 games. Ryabkin added seven goals and nine assists for 16 points in 14 USHL Playoff contests, capturing the Clarke Cup Championship.
Ryabkin was ranked No. 35 by Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis in his Final Top 120.
“Ryabkin started the season as one of the top prospects but quickly fell out of the conversation after a brutal start back home in Russia. He was productive once he moved to Muskegon, though, scoring at a solid rate to quickly become one of the USHL’s most dangerous draft-eligible prospects. We’ve also seen him flesh out his physical and playmaking games, with his passing and hockey sense being two of his best traits. A boost of confidence in the USHL seems to have really helped Ryabkin’s stock after falling out of the first round in the eyes of many at the halfway point of the season.”
