A young and rising player is paying a few bucks for his actions.

On Friday, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced that Carolina Hurricanes forward Jackson Blake is being fined $2,358.94 for slashing Anaheim Ducks defenseman Jacob Trouba.

The incident occurred just before the halfway mark of the third period of Thursday night’s interconference matchup. Trouba threw a body check on Blake between the two benches in the neutral zone. Blake seemed to take exception and whacked Trouba up high on his back.

Blake was handed a two-minute penalty for slashing on the play. The 22-year-old registered an assist in the game, his third of the season, helping the Hurricanes to a 4-1 win. In four games this year, Blake has scored a goal and four points.

The fine is paid to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

This is the first time Blake has ever faced any supplemental discipline in his NHL career.

The former North Dakota star is coming off a solid rookie season in Raleigh. In 80 games during the 2024-25 campaign, he scored 17 goals and 17 assists for 34 points, finishing ninth on the team in scoring. Blake registered a plus/minus of +10 while averaging 13:51 of ice time. He went on to score three goals and six points in 15 games in the Canes’ run to the Eastern Conference Final last spring.

Blake’s efforts earned him an eight-year contract extension, with an AAV of $5.1 million through the 2026-27 season.

Across three seasons, the Fargo, N.D. native has played in 85 games with the Hurricanes, scoring 18 goals and 20 assists for 38 points.

Prior to his NHL career, Blake was a dominant player with the Fighting Hawks, finishing out his time with North Dakota as a Hat Trick Finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in 2023-24.
