The Carolina Hurricanes have placed Seth Jarvis on injured reserve after sustaining an injury in Friday’s 4-3 shootout loss to the Florida Panthers, with the team using the free roster spot to recall Bradley Nadeau from the Chicago Wolves.

Jarvis sustained the injury during the overtime period of Friday’s loss in a play where he drove the net with the puck. The combination of him losing balance while driving to the net and Evan Rodrigues trying to knock Jarvis off the puck caused him to go flying into the goal post, knocking the net off its’ moorings, with Jarvis then flying into the boards. Jarvis immediately clutched his upper-body in pain and left the game, requiring assistance from the medical staff.

Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour announced after the game that Jarvis will be “out for a while”, so a placement on injured reserve should come as no surprise. His placement on IR guarantees that he’ll be out of the lineup for at least the next week, although Brind’Amour’s comments indicate that Jarvis will likely be out beyond that. With Jarvis in the running for a spot on Canada’s Olympic team, the injury may impact if he is able to play in the tournament.

Jarvis has dealt with a couple injuries this season, including a lower-body injury at the end of October and an eye injury in the middle of November, but had yet to miss a game this season.

Jarvis continues to take steps forward in his game and develop into a consistent scoring threat for the Hurricanes, as he had 19 goals and 10 assists for 29 points in 34 games this season. Had his season been fully healthy, he was on pace for a career-high 69 points.

The Hurricanes also recalled forward Bradley Nadeau from the Wolves in a corresponding move. Nadeau currently has one goal in six games with the Canes in the NHL, as well as nine goals and 11 assists for 20 points in 18 games with the Wolves in the AHL.

The Hurricanes currently sit in first place in the Metropolitan Division with a 22-9-3 record. They’ll look to bounce back from blowing a 3-0 lead to the Panthers when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday at 7 p.m. EST.
