Hurricanes place William Carrier on injured reserve

The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Wednesday that they have placed veteran winger William Carrier on injured reserve.
Carrier suffered an injury last Thursday against the Colorado Avalanche, and he has been out of action since. The 30-year-old from Quebec is in the second season of a six-year deal he signed with Carolina as an unrestricted free agent in July 2024.
The former Golden Knight was off to a strong start to the year, playing a key role on Carolina’s checking line alongside Jordan Staal and Jordan Martinook while putting up three points in seven games and skating to a plus-5 rating.
Carrier is not the only bottom six forward the Canes are missing, as Eric Robinson also got hurt against Colorado and has been out ever since. Andrei Svechnikov has jumped up from the fourth line to join Staal and Martinook on the third, while Mark Jankowski and Bradly Nadeau have served as the new members of the forward unit.
The #Canes have recalled defenseman Charles Alexis Legault from the @Chicago_Wolves.

In a corresponding move, the Hurricanes also announced that they have recalled defenseman Charles-Alexis Legault from AHL Chicago. It’s a necessary move as the Hurricanes have been battered by injuries on the back end.
Jaccob Slavin has been out since the second game of the year, and K’Andre Miller has missed each of the past three games. Shayne Gostisbehere returned from an injury for Tuesday night’s game against Vegas, but he sustained a separate injury that forced him out of the contest.
Carolina has been leaning on numerous rookies on the blue line, as veterans Mike Reilly, Sean Walker and Jalen Chatfield have been joined by Alexander Nikishin, Legault, Joel Nystrom and Dominick Fensore with all of the injuries.
The Hurricanes have lost their past two games in regulation after a 6-1-0 start as injuries have mounted. Carolina will look to get back into the win column on Thursday night in a Metropolitan Division showdown against the New York Islanders.
