The injury comes on the same day Gostisbehere was activated off injured reserve (IR) by the Hurricanes. He was injured during the team’s Oct. 18 contest against the Los Angeles Kings and has been out of the lineup since.
In five games this season, Gostisbehere recorded one goal and six assists for seven points. Now in the second year of a three-year, $9.6 million deal he signed with the Hurricanes ahead of the 2024-25 season, he’s posted eight goals and 44 assists for 52 points in 75 regular-season games with Carolina.
Gostisbehere, a native of Pembroke Pines, Fla., also played 15 Stanley Cup Playoff games with the Hurricanes last spring, where he scored three goals and recorded six assists for nine points.
Now in his 12th NHL season, Gostisbehere, a third-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, has 105 goals and 314 assists for 419 points in 694 career regular-season games with the Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, Arizona Coyotes and Philadelphia Flyers.
He also has five goals and 12 assists for 17 points in 47 career playoff games.
Heading into Tuesday night’s game, the Hurricanes have compiled a record of 6-2-0 with 12 points through eight games, putting them third in the Metropolitan Division. Forward Seth Jarvis leads the team in both goals and points with seven and 11, respectively. Meanwhile, Gostisbehere and Sebastian Aho are tied for the team lead in assists with six.
After Tuesday’s game, they will host the New York Islanders on Thursday night, following by a brief two-game road trip to face the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers.
