One of the top rising players in the game is hanging around Raleigh for a few more years.

On Monday, the Carolina Hurricanes announced that the team has signed forward Logan Stankoven to an eight-year contract extension. The deal, set to begin with the 2026-27 season, will carry an AAV of $6 million through the 2031-32 campaign.

Stankoven joined the Hurricanes this past season, following the trade that saw the Dallas Stars acquire Mikko Rantanen, in which he was a key return. While Stankoven had little time to adjust to his new surroundings, he still found a way to contribute, scoring five goals and four assists for nine points in 19 regular-season affairs. Then, in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Kamloops, British Columbia native notched five goals and eight points in 15 games, as the Hurricanes made it back to the Eastern Conference Final.

Ultimately, Carolina fell to the Florida Panthers, who went on to win Lord Stanley’s Cup for a second consecutive year.

The Hurricanes are just the second organization that Stankoven has been a part of. He was initially taken by the Stars in the second round, 47th overall, of the 2021 NHL Draft. He quickly established himself as one of the top players in the system, making his debut with Dallas during the 2023-24 season.

After posting 14 points in 24 games to end that season, the 22-year-old kicked off his rookie season by providing depth scoring for a Dallas team that would eventually finish second in the Central Division. Overall, Stankoven scored 14 goals and 24 assists for 38 points.

In 102 games in the NHL so far, Stankoven has potted 20 goals and 32 assists for 52 points, including another 16 points in 34 postseason games.

Along with his pro career, which saw him win the Dudley “Red” Garrett Memorial Award as American Hockey League Rookie of the Year in 2024, Stankoven won gold with Team Canada at the 2021 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship and the 2022 and 2023 IIHF World Junior Championships.

According to PuckPedia, the Hurricanes have over $26.7 million in cap space for next season.
