Hurricanes sign Ronan Seeley to one-year contract
The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Thursday that they have alleviated the need for their lone scheduled arbitration hearing by agreeing to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with defenseman Ronan Seeley.
The contract will pay Seeley $100,000 at the AHL level and $850,000 at the NHL level with a guaranteed minimum salary for the 2026-27 campaign of $160,000.
Seeley, who the Hurricanes chose with the No. 208 overall pick in the seventh round of the 2020 NHL Draft.
The left-handed blueliner made his NHL debut this past season, going without a point in his loan appearance in the Carolina lineup. At the AHL level with the Hurricanes’ affiliate Chicago Wolves, Seeley was part of an impressive blue line that powered the Wolves all the way to the Calder Cup Final where they fell short against the Toronto Marlies.
Seeley appeared in 69 regular season games as an alternate captain for Chicago, scoring 11 goals and dishing out 12 assists for 23 points before chipping in a pair of points in 21 contests on the playoff run.
The Hurricanes have been quite this summer after finally getting over the hump and capturing their second Stanley Cup championship in franchise history in relatively dominant fashion thanks to a 16-3 run through the postseason.
Goalie Frederik Andersen is gone to the Edmonton Oilers, while depth defenseman Mike Reilly remains unsigned. Emerging defenseman Alexander Nikishin is a restricted free agent who is not eligible for an offer sheet. Carolina could still re-sign him, but his name has been floated throughout the off-season as a possible trade candidate to help the Canes land a bigger fish.
Carolina will raise its Stanley Cup banner on Opening Night of the 2026-27 season against the Florida Panthers, who won the two Cups immediately prior to the Hurricanes’ victory last season.
