Hurricanes’ Taylor Hall out week-to-week; Seth Jarvis could return on road trip

The Carolina Hurricanes are off to a great start in their bid to repeat as Stanley Cup champions, having rattled off six straight wins to jump out to an early lead in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 6-1-1.
This comes despite an early rash of injuries. Star winger Seth Jarvis has yet to play a game this season as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery, and veteran forwards Jordan Staal and Taylor Hall have recently been forced out of the lineup with their own ailments.
After Friday’s practice in Raleigh and ahead of the team’s departure for its annual long road trip that lines up with the North Carolina State Fair being held across the street from the Lenovo Center, head coach Rod Brind’Amour delivered an update on both Hall and Jarvis.
Hall, who had to leave Carolina’s last game, a 4-2 victory over the Washington Capitals, with an upper-body injury, will be out of the lineup on a week-to-week basis. Skating on the Canes’ second line with Logan Stankoven and Jackson Blake, Hall has started off the year strong as the trio looks to replicate the success it enjoyed in last year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs. The 2018 Hart Trophy winner has five points through eight games.
As for Jarvis, the Winnipeg native will travel with the team on the upcoming road trip, signaling that he may be able to make his season debut on this five-game swing against Western Conference opponents that will run through Oct. 24. Prior to this summer’s surgery, Jarvis had been battling through the shoulder injury for the better part of two years.
Now in his sixth season in the league, Jarvis has topped the 30-goal mark in each of the last three seasons. His 66 points in 71 appearances last regular season marked the highest point-per-game output of his young career.
The Hurricanes will look to run their winning streak to seven games on Saturday night, when they visit Jarvis’ hometown to take on the Winnipeg Jets.
