For the first time this postseason, the Carolina Hurricanes are out of their comfort zone. Down 2-1 to the Vegas Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Final after Saturday’s 5-4 double overtime Game 3 loss, it’s clear Carolina won’t be able to suffocate and overwhelm Vegas as they were able to against their three previous playoff opponents.

While the Hurricanes are certainly in tough against the Golden Knights, they’re still firmly in the fight. Each game of the Stanley Cup Final so far has been decided by just one goal, and two have required overtime. If Carolina can take Tuesday’s Game 4 in Vegas, they’ll even the series at 2-2 and reclaim home ice advantage heading back to Raleigh for Game 5.

On Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, hosts Tyler Yaremchuk and Steve Peters discussed what the Hurricanes need to do to win Game 4 and get back to level with the Golden Knights.

Tyler Yaremchuk: For Carolina, you can’t go down 3-1 in this Cup final, so what do you need to see from them to kind of get this back on track?

Steve Peters: Their starts have been really good. They play 20 minutes of really good hockey, but they’ve got to find a way to put 60 minutes together. More importantly, they can’t turn the puck over. When you look at Vegas’ success, even when they came from their own end and travelled 200 feet, it’s often off of a Carolina turnover. They’ve got to manage the puck better, and they can’t let Vegas start their transition game. So look for them to manage the puck better, keep the puck out of the middle of the ice. We saw on one the goals in Game 3, it was fired right up the middle of the ice on of (Mitch) Marner’s great goals. I think they need to manage the puck better, keep it off the glass, live another day, and keep it 0-0 as long as they can. That’s an advantage for Carolina, because we’ve seen they can score when they need to, so keep it 0-0.
