The Hurricanes still want to make a big add this season

The Carolina Hurricanes are one of the hottest teams to start the 2025-26 season. They were the last remaining undefeated team in the league with a record of 5-0-0 before a loss on Tuesday in Vegas, and they stand as one of the clear-cut contenders for the Stanley Cup.
With an aggressive front office led by general manager Eric Tulsky, the organization is always looking to find any advantage they can in terms of player personnel. They brought in Mikko Rantanen and Taylor Hall in a blockbuster last year, and by trading Rantanen at the deadline after failed extension talks, they added Logan Stankoven, the salary cap flexibility to sign Nikolaj Ehlers in free agency and two first-round picks, one of which became the primary asset sent to the New York Rangers for defenseman K’Andre Miller, who has fit like a glove in head coach Rod Brind’Amour’s system.
On Wednesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, host Irfaan Gaffar and co-host and former NHL defenseman Colby Cohen were joined by NHL insider David Pagnotta to discuss Tulsky’s plans to continue to go big-game hunting.
Irfaan Gaffar: I want to start with the Carolina Hurricanes. An interesting team off to a good start; they’re team that always wants to be in the mix and get over the hump. Has there been any chatter around the Carolina Hurricanes and adding here?
David Pagnotta: They’re a team that we know from the last couple of years they’re not afraid to take a big swing. Great start to the season so far obviously for them. They’re still not afraid to take those big swings. They tried the Guentzel thing two years ago; they tried Rantanen last year and then ended up flipping him for a good package in return. They go swinging this summer and bring in Nik Ehlers. This is a team that’s pretty pumped for this coming season. I talked to Sebastian Aho during the European Media Tour, and he was super pumped coming into this season about the team’s chances and the fact that they went out again and picked up the biggest fish that was available in Ehlers. My understanding is Eric Tulsky is not afraid to do it again.
