Chicago Blackhawks prospect Mason West, a dual-sport star, wrapped up his football career in style on Friday night.

The six-foot-six center and No. 29 overall pick in the 2025 NHL draft is also the star quarterback of Edina High, and he led his team to the Minnesota class AAAAAA state championship with a 42-35 win over Moorhead.

West helped the Hornets to a storybook season, as the team started 3-3 in the regular season and dropped its regular season finale to Moorhead before ultimately defeating them in the state title game.

In the five games that Edina recorded stats for on MaxPreps, West completed 106 of 121 passes for 1,273 yards and 12 touchdowns to just one interception. According to High School On SI, West threw a key touchdown to running back Chase Bjorgaard that got Edina back into the game after falling behind 15-7.

Daily Faceoff draft expert Steven Ellis ranked West, who is committed to play college hockey at Michigan State University, as the No. 51 prospect available in June’s draft.

“He’s a 6-foot-6 center who loves to overpower defenders and beat opponents with skill,” Ellis wrote. “He spent most of the year playing high school hockey but then finished the season with some excellent performances with the USHL’s Fargo Force. Every time I watch him, he finds a way to get better. The upside is tremendous, and he doesn’t struggle with traits that some other big forwards can, including slower hands and feet.”

In his junior hockey season, West racked up 49 points in 31 games played for Edina, including 27 goals and 22 assists. He also played in 10 USHL games for the Fargo Force, recording a goal and eight assists along the way. West will play in the USHL now that his football season has concluded.
