Blackhawks sign Oliver Moore to five-year extension

The Chicago Blackhawks are continuing to secure their future, with hopes of a burgeoning contention window, and have taken the next step by signing center Oliver Moore for the next six seasons, with a new five-year deal kicking in for 2027-28, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman. 

Moore’s new deal will pay him a total of $21.25 million over the five years, working out to a $4.25 million average annual value, a contract value that could age nicely with the NHL’s rapidly rising salary cap and the large contracts that have been signed in the lead-up to the 2026-27 season. 

The first year of Moore’s deal will pay him $5.25 million in salary, with the second year at $4.25 million, the third and fourth at $4 million and the final fifth season at $3.75 million. 

Initially selected 19th overall in the first round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, the Mounds View, Minnesota, native scored four assists in a nine-game NHL showing in 2024-25, before his first full NHL season in 2025-26, which saw him net five goals and 14 assists in 51 games. In 2025-26, he also spent time with the AHL’s Rockford Ice Hogs, where he netted six goals and three assists in nine games. 

Before joining the Blackhawks, Moore played two seasons at the University of Minnesota, scoring 66 points across two seasons, including a 12-goal, 21-assist campaign in his final year before joining the Blackhawks in the spring. 

Outside of his NCAA and professional career, the now-21-year-old has also found success on the international stage, playing with the USA at the 2024 and 2025 World Junior Hockey Championships and winning gold in both tournaments. 

Set for his second season as a regular NHL player, Moore will look to help the Chicago Blackhawks return to contention for Stanley Cup Playoff spots, starting with the regular-season opener on Sept. 29 against the Vegas Golden Knights.
