Avalanche’s Logan O’Connor undergoes hip surgery, out 5-6 months

The Colorado Avalanche announced that forward Logan O’Connor underwent successful hip surgery on Friday morning.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that he’s expected to be out for the next 5-6 months recovering.
Avalanche forward Logan O'Connor underwent successful hip surgery this morning (Friday, June 6). The procedure was performed by Dr. Bryan Kelly at HSS (Hospital for Special Surgery) in New York City. He is expected to be out 5-6 months.
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) June 6, 2025In layman’s terms – O’Connor will miss the start of the 2025-26 regular season. If the projected timeline holds true, he won’t be back in action until November or Christmas at the earliest.
It wasn’t publicly known that O’Connor had suffered any injury. He played all seven games of the Avalanche’s first-round series against the Dallas Stars, scoring two goals and four assists for six points, doubling his career point total in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Unfortunately, Colorado was ousted by the Stars in a thrilling series.
What’s a double-whammy is that next season is the first year of a six-year contract that O’Connor signed this past September. It carries a $2.5 million cap hit with a modified no-trade clause where the Missouri City, Texas native submits a six-team no-trade list.
O’Connor’s playoff performance this season was a sharp uptick from how he played during the regular season. In 80 games, he posted 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points, his lowest point total since he became a full-time NHLer during the 2021-22 campaign.
The 28-year-old undrafted winger has spent his entire career with the Avs, the team he signed with after a solid collegiate career at the University of Denver in July 2018. He was a member of the Colorado team that brought home the franchise’s third Stanley Cup in 2022.
In 343 NHL appearances, O’Connor has scored 45 goals and 58 assists for 103 points, along with another 11 points in 38 postseason games.
