The Colorado Avalanche made history Saturday night, becoming the fourth team in NHL history to record two double-digit winning streaks in a single season.

The Avs accomplished the feat with a 5-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes, led by a four-point night from forward Nathan MacKinnon (one goal and three assists) and two goals from forward Brock Nelson. Scott Wedgewood stopped 25 of 28 shots to earn his 17th win of the season.

The win gives Colorado their 10th straight victory, dating back to Dec. 11. It’s their second double-digit winning streak of the 2025-26 campaign, their first one coming between Nov. 4 and 26, where they also won 10 straight.

The Avalanche are now 31-2-7 with 69 points through 40 games. They lead the Central Division, Western Conference and the entire National Hockey League.

They now have the second-highest point total for a team through the first half of the season, trailing only the 1929-30 Boston Bruins, who were 35-4-1 with 71 points.

MacKinnon has 35 goals and 39 assists for 74 points, leading the NHL in goals and points through the first half of 2025-26. Forward Martin Necas has 19 goals and 34 assists for 53 points, while Cale Makar has 12 goals and 35 assists for 47 points. The Avs defenseman leads the league in assists and points among blueliners.

The team now flies to the Sunshine State to take on the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers on Sunday, then face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.

Colorado will then head back to Denver for a seven-game home stretch, starting Jan. 8 and running through Jan. 23.
