The Colorado Avalanche announced Wednesday they signed forward Brock Nelson to a three-year contract extension through the 2027-28 season.

According to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, Nelson’s annual average value (AAV) will be $7.5 million, meaning he’ll earn $22.5 million over the course of the three seasons.

Nelson finished the 2024-25 regular season with 26 goals and 30 assists for 56 points in 80 games, split between the New York Islanders and Avalanche. In seven playoff games with the Avalanche, Nelson recorded four assists.

The forward was acquired by Colorado, along with William Dufour, for Cal Ritchie, Oliver Kylington, a conditional first-round pick and a 2028 third-round pick.

Nelson spent most of the first 12 years of his career with the Islanders, who drafted him No. 30 overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. The Warroad, Minn., native has recorded 301 goals and 286 assists for 587 points in 920 career regular-season games. He’s also appeared in 85 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring 27 goals and 27 assists for 54 points.

Nelson’s best offensive season came in 2022-23, recording a career-high 75 points by way of 36 goals and 39 assists. He set a career high in goals the previous season with 37.

The Avalanche finished the 2024-25 campaign with a 49-29-4 record and 102 points, third in the Central Division. They were eliminated in seven games by the Dallas Stars in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Nathan MacKinnon led the team in all offensive categories, scoring 32 goals and recording 84 assists for 116 points.
