Columbus Blue Jackets acquire Jake Bean from Carolina Hurricanes

The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired Jake Bean from the Carolina Hurricanes.
The trade, broken by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, will see the Hurricanes acquire a second-round pick in tonight’s draft as compensation.
Bean, 23, was drafted by the Hurricanes in the 1st round of the 2016 draft and this season was his first in the NHL. Largely playing a third-pairing role, Bean had some struggles in his own zone.
According to hockeyviz.com, he contributed even-strength offence at a league-average rate and even-strength defence at a seven percent rate below league average. Despite that, the Hurricanes defence defended at a league-average rate.
Nonetheless, Bean’s first season in the NHL saw him play 42 games for the Hurricanes scoring one goal and 12 points.
The draft pick moved in the trade was acquired not long before in the blockbuster Seth Jones trade.
According to PuckPedia, Bean is an RFA and in need of a new contract.
