The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed forward Patrik Laine on injured reserve retroactive to October 20, the club announced Monday afternoon.

Laine, 25, suffered an upper-body injury as a result of a high hit by Rasmus Andersson in the dying moments of the Blue Jackets’ 3–1 win over the Calgary Flames on Friday.

Andersson was suspended four games for the hit, although the NHLPA has filed an appeal on his behalf. Laine is currently considered day-to-day with his injury.

Laine is eligible to be activated off injured reserve on October 27, at the earliest. The Blue Jackets will play their next game after that date against the New York Islanders in Columbus on October 28.

In a corresponding move, the Blue Jackets announced that they have recalled forward Dmitri Voronkov from the American Hockey League’s Cleveland Monsters.

Voronkov, 23, is in his first season playing in North America after signing an entry-level contract with the Blue Jackets in May. The 6’4″ winger collected one assist in his first four AHL games with Cleveland to start the 2023–24 season.

The Blue Jackets originally selected Voronkov in the fourth round (No. 114 overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft. The Angarsk, Russia product racked up 18 goals and 31 points in 54 KHL games with Ak Bars Kazan in the 2022–23 season before adding eight goals and 12 points in 24 Gagarin Cup Playoff games.

Voronkov could be in the lineup for his first NHL game when the Blue Jackets play host to the Anaheim Ducks at Nationwide Arena on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
