Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Jordan Dumais to miss six weeks with lower-abdominal injury

The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that forward prospect Jordan Dumais is set to have surgery on Jan. 19 to repair a lower abdominal injury.
The expected recovery time will take around six weeks.
Dumais returned to Ohio recently as reports surfaced that he was dealing with the ailment following the World Junior Championship. Considered to be a big part of Canada’s run, he had a quiet two points in five games as the team was eliminated in the quarterfinal by Czechia.
Dumais is viewed as a top prospect in the organization, with the 19-year-old coming off a 140-point season with the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads last year. Dumais missed the start of the season with an upper-body injury, but still was playing at a 130-point pace before leaving for camp with Canada. Dumais was pulled from the second exhibition game in camp in Oakville, Ontario with a hip flexor issue, and never looked himself once the real event began.
Drafted 96th overall by the Blue Jackets, Dumais should return in time for Halifax’s playoff push this year. He’ll turn pro at the end of the season and could make a push to make the Blue Jackets out of training camp.
The Mooseheads currently sit first in the Martitimes Division with a 25-11-5 record and 55 points. That’s good for fourth in the league behind powerhouse efforts from Baie-Comeau (68 points), Drummondville and Rouyn-Noranda (both 57).
Columbus, meanwhile, sit 28th with 35 points, 14 more than the San Jose Sharks in dead last. Columbus is 3-3-4 over the past 10 games, and they sit three points behind Buffalo and Minnesota for 26th.
