Rick Bowness has made a big impact in Columbus in little time

The Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the New York Rangers 6-3 on Thursday, extending their point streak to 11 games and moving them into both the No. 3 slot in the Metropolitan Division and in a playoff spot for the first time this season.
It’s been an impressive stretch of hockey for the Blue Jackets, who since firing Dean Evason on Jan. 12 and replacing him with Rick Bowness are 17-2-4 in their last 23 games. On the day Columbus hired Bowness, they were ranked last in the Eastern Conference and 27th in the Western Conference.
On Friday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discuss the Blue Jackets’ win over the Rangers and how the team has played in the last two months.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Since the Blue Jackets made their coaching coach on Jan. 12, and this is unbelievable: They’re the No. 1 team in the NHL by a significant gap. Since Rick Bowness took over in Columbus, they have an .826 points percentage.
It’s been an unreal run for the Blue Jackets that isn’t coming to an end.
Carter Hutton: It’s been unbelievable, and again last night, it’s a huge win. I just think this team is playing with such confidence and motivation. You know who doesn’t get a lot of credit in this? Great job by Don Waddell, understanding that Dean Evason wasn’t getting through to this group and they needed a change.
The biggest thing I’ve heard with Bowness is the fact that he just understands his players, well. He knows how to talk to each individual, they’re not painted with the same brush. He’s done a great job of empowering these players to do what tehy’ve been doing.
