Jets suspend Connor Hellebuyck for failing to report to training camp

The Winnipeg Jets announced Wednesday they have suspended goaltender Connor Hellebuyck for failing to report to training camp.

According to a statement, general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff will speak with media Thursday morning to address the decision.

The news comes one day after a report from The Athletic‘s Murat Ates that Hellebuyck was not expected to report to camp.

Last month, the three-time Vezina Trophy winner released a statement through his agent, Ray Petkau, that he requested a trade from Winnipeg earlier in the offseason.

“I have tried to handle the situation quietly and respectfully while giving the organization time to explore its options,” Hellebuyck said in the statement. “With training camp approaching, I felt it was important to publicly confirm my request. My position has not changed, and I believe moving on is the best path forward for me and my family.”

Hellebuyck has four years remaining on his contract that carries a cap hit of $8.5 million.

In 2025-26, the 33-year-old went 23-23-11 with a 2.86 goals against average (GAA) and .895 save percentage (SV%) in 57 appearances with Winnipeg. Through 11 NHL seasons, he’s posted a 345-208-55 record with a .916 SV% and 2.58 GAA in 625 career games.

He’s also appeared in 58 Stanley Cup Playoff games, where he’s posted a 24-34 mark with a .903 SV% and 2.90 GAA.

Hellebuyck, a fifth-round pick for the Jets in 2012, has won multiple awards throughout his NHL career. Along with the Vezina Trophy three times, he won the William M. Jennings Trophy twice and the Hart Trophy in 2025.
