The players’ association of the new North American women’s league has named its union officers.

On Friday, the Professional Women’s Hockey League Players’ Association announced that PWHL Minnesota captain Kendall Coyne Schofield will be the President of the PWHLPA.

Former Canadian Women’s Hockey League goaltender Liz Knox and current PWHL Ottawa defender Savannah Harmon have named the PA’s secretary and treasurer, respectively.

Knox and Schofield both served together previously on the board of the Professional Women’s Hockey Player’s Association, with Schofield serving as the president as well.

All three have years of pro hockey experience. Harmon and Schofield each played for three seasons in the PWHPA, with both having spent time in the Premier Hockey Federation (formerly National Women’s Hockey League). Knox last appearaed in the PWHPA during the 2021-22 season, having also played seven seasons in the CWHL with the Brampton/Markham Thunder.

The PWHLPA is led by former NHL general manager Brian Burke, as he signed on as executive director back in August. The former Pittsburgh Penguins Director of Hockey Operations also served on the CWHL’s board of advisors.

The PWHL has kicked off its inaugural season with rave reviews, and big crowds. The first couple of weeks have seen some exciting action, with more great play expected for the rest of the season.

So far, Schofield’s Minnesota side is leading the pack with a 3-0-0 record. Montreal is right behind them at 2-1, while New York and Toronto are both 1-2. So far, Ottawa and Boston have played just once, thanks to bad weather forcing their game scheduled for this past Monday to be postponed.

A double-header is scheduled for this coming Saturday, as cities that are traditional rivals in the men’s game go at it. Toronto will be hosting Ottawa at 1 p.m. ET, while Montreal holds their home opener against Boston at 3:30 p.m. ET.
