Coyotes acquire two draft picks from the Flyers by taking on Shayne Gostibehere

The NHL’s roster freeze has been lifted and there’s a flurry of deals being made.
According to Craig Morgan, the Arizona Coyotes have acquired Shayne Gostibehere from the Philadelphia Flyers. Arizona won’t be sending anything back to Philadelphia as the Flyers are paying them a second- and a seventh-round pick in the 2022 draft in exchange for taking on Gostibehere’s contract.
The particulars: Gostisbehere (sorry, missed an S in the first tweet) plus 2022 2nd-round and 7th-round picks coming to AZ. Nothing going back to Philly; just like the Andrew Ladd deal. https://t.co/J6E5IijUgz

Gostibehere has a $4,500,000 cap hit for two more seasons, so getting him off the books will give the Flyers some flexibility to work with this summer.
Though he was once one of the best offensive defencemen in the NHL, Gostibehere’s production has dipped over the past few seasons. Between 2019-20 and 2021, Gostibehere played in 83 games and recorded 32 points.
This is the second deal the Coyotes have made this off-season in which they’ve used their wealth of open cap room to acquire draft picks. Last week, they took on the final year of Andrew Ladd’s deal in exchange for three draft picks.
Adding draft picks is a key priority for the Coyotes as they have to forfeit their first-round selection, No. 11 overall, due to violating the scouting combine policy by conducting physical tests of draft-eligible players.
