Harri Säteri’s tenure as a Toronto Maple Leaf is over before it started. The Arizona Coyotes have claimed the newly signed goaltender off waivers.

The Leafs inked Säteri to a one-year deal worth $750,000 on Sunday. Since he was playing in Europe, Säteri had to go through waivers to re-enter the NHL.

Säteri put together an excellent season overseas, ultimately earning himself a shot in the NHL. He posted a 0.926 save percentage in the KHL with Sibir Novosibirsk and then led Finland to a gold medal at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.

Arizona dealt Scott Wedgewood to the Dallas Stars on Sunday, so Säteri will have an opportunity to see some action as he shares the net with Karel Vejmelka, who signed a contract extension Monday.

In other Leafs-related news, Petr Mrazek has cleared through waivers unclaimed, which is no surprise given he has a $3.8-million cap hit for two more seasons after this one. There’s no word yet as to whether the Leafs will bury Mrazek with the AHL Toronto Marlies or if they’ll call him back up to the NHL club.

Rookie goaltender Erik Kallgren has been excellent for Toronto early in his NHL career, as he’s stopped 107 of the 115 shots he’s faced in his first four games.
