Daily Faceoff Live: Trade speculation surrounding Anaheim Ducks’ John Klingberg

Matt Larkin and Steven Ellis welcome Daily Faceoff President Frank Seravalli to the guest seat as Seravalli talks about potential trade targets and what the latest is surrounding Anaheim Ducks defenseman, John Klingberg.

Matt Larkin: Frank, I know John Klingberg of the Anaheim Ducks is one of the names you tabled early in the season as one of the names to likely get dealt as we saw the Ducks fall out of contention so quickly that the writing was on the wall. What are you hearing about Klingberg?

Frank Seravalli: No, I think it’s actually been rather quiet. A lot of teams have seen the dip in Klingberg’s game and part of that is unavoidable with the team play that’s surrounding him and I think teams do struggle with “did he have a drop-off?” Or “is it the lack of support in Anaheim?” They really only have three bonafide NHL defenseman on their roster at this time and I think it’s impacted everyone and it’s been a somewhat miserable season for Klingberg. He was lingering on the market for a while, goes to Anaheim and gets $7,000,000 in the back pocket and thinks “okay I’ll be flipped at the deadline I can have a great year and cash in” and it doesn’t look like that will be the case. I don’t think a big contract is heading his way unless he has a magical playoff run and to this point the Ducks were hoping that there would be a more robust market for Klingberg that many see as the premiere all-around defenseman available but I’m not even certain that’s the case at this moment.
