The Daily Faceoff Morning Report will be released on weekdays, recapping the key news and events from the day before.
We will highlight injuries that will affect today’s games, hot streaks, cold streaks, and anything relevant for everyone from the casual hockey fan to the Fantasy Hockey grinder.
Penguins make history
The Pittsburgh Penguins crushed the Detroit Red Wings in an 11-2 blowout and became the first team to score 11 goals in a game since the Washington Capitals in 2003. The Penguins responded in a big way after coming off a very disappointing one-sided 5-1 loss to the New York Rangers on Friday. Evgeni Malkin (C) led the way with four points (3G / 1A) and newcomer Rickard Rakell (LW, RW) recorded three points (1G, 2A), his first points in three games as a Penguin.

— NHL (@NHL) March 27, 2022Things have gotten very ugly for the Red Wings recently. In December, the Red Wings had a 13-9-3 record and were very much still in the mix for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Since then, they have the third-worst record in the NHL (13-23-5) and the worst goals allowed average per game (4.22). More recently, this is the seventh time the Red Wings have allowed seven or more goals in their last 24 games (8-14-2). Since January 26th, they have allowed an average of 4.71 goals per game, almost a full goal more than the second-worst Columbus Blue Jackets at 3.93.
Predators come from behind to defeat Flyers
After being outscored 12-2 in their previous two games (0-2-0), the Nashville Predators responded from being down 3-1 to the Philadelphia Flyers on route to winning 5-4 in regulation. Rookie Tanner Jeannot (LW, RW) had three points (1G / 2A), including the game-winning goal with 79 seconds remaining to give him 22 goals on the season, most among all first-year players. Roman Josi (D) had another multi-point game (0G / 2A) and now has 28 points (4G / 24A) during a 13 game point streak. Filip Forsberg (LW) scored a goal to give him 65 points (37G / 28A) on the season, a new career-high.

Karel Vejmelka (G) made 38 of 40 saves in the loss for the Coyotes. Vejmelka has a .920 SV% or greater this season in games where he has faced 39 or more shots (3-4-1).

Talbot has won each of his last eight starts (8-0-0) and has a .924 SV% after having gone 0-4-0 with a .863 SV% before that. Mats Zuccarello (RW) had three assists for the Wild and now has 20 multi-point games this season.
Maple Leafs score four unanswered to defeat Panthers
John Tavares (C) led the way for the Maple Leafs, scoring two powerplay goals in a 5-2 win over the Florida Panthers. Tavares has 11 points (5G / 6A) in his last 11 games. Mitch Marner (RW) had three assists in the game, including the 300th of his career, to give him 12 points (4G / 8A) over a six-game point streak.
