Daily Faceoff Morning Report — 03/30/22

Leafs solve Swayman, Bruins
Entering action on Tuesday, no team and no goalie have been better than the Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman (G) since mid-February. The Bruins held a 14-2-1 record while Swayman owned a 10-2-2 record along with a .929 SV% and 1.98 GAA. The Toronto Maple Leafs chased Swayman out of the net, scoring six goals on 25 shots to give them a 6-1 lead at the second intermission. Mitch Marner (RW) and Auston Matthews (C) both had two-point games for the Maple Leafs (1G / 1A). Matthews scored his league-leading 49th goal of the season and now has 26 points (16G / 10A) in his last 15 games while Marner has 30 points (11G / 19A) in his last 16 games. Petr Mrazek (G) left the game early in the first period with a lower-body injury.

Darcy Kuemper (G) saved 44 of 45 shots for the Colorado Avalanche in a 2-1 win over the Calgary Flames. With the win, the Avalanche became the first team this season to reach 100 points (47-14-6). Valeri Nichushkin (LW, RW) scored two powerplay goals for the Avalanche to give him 13 points (6G / 7A) in his last 15 games.

Devon Toews (D) only had two points (0G / 2A) in his last eight contests heading into the game but added two assists, improving his career-best totals to 49 points (12G / 37A) in 56 games. Nathan MacKinnon (C) was ruled out of the game earlier in the day and travelled back to Denver to be evaluated with a “high” concern injury.
Stars hand Ducks 10th straight loss
Roope Hintz (C, LW) and Jacob Peterson (C, LW) scored goals in the third period for the Dallas Stars to give them a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks. Peterson is tied with Tanner Jeannot (LW, RW) for most game-winning goals by a rookie this season with five.

The Stars jumped back into the second Wild Card position and have three games in hand on the Vegas Golden Knights, who are one point behind them. The Ducks fall to 0-8-2 in their last 10 games with the loss.
Predators beat Senators, move into third in Central
Juuse Saros (G) made 36 saves on 37 shots as the Nashville Predators defeated the Ottawa Senators 4-1. Tanner Jeannot (LW, RW) scored his rookie-leading 23rd goal of the season and now has seven points (5G / 2A) in his last seven games while averaging 5.4 hits per game. Mattias Ekholm (D) had three assists in the game, his first multi-point performance since January 1st (30 games), when he also had a three-assist performance. Roman Josi (D) was held pointless and saw his 28-point (4G / 24A), 13-game point streak come to an end.
Huberdeau ties NHL record in Panthers win
Jonathan Huberdeau (LW) had three points (2G / 1A) for the Florida Panthers in a 7-4 victory over the Montreal Canadiens and now has nine points (4G / 5A) during a five-game point streak. Huberdeau tied an NHL record set by Joe Juneau in the 1992-93 season for 70 assists, the most ever recorded by a left-winger in a single season.

Lightning top Hurricanes 4-3 (OT)
Steven Stamkos (C, RW) scored the game-winning goal in overtime, one of his three points (1G / 2A) on the night, to give him 30 goals on the season. Stamkos hit the 30-goal milestone for the seventh time in his 14 year career. Nikita Kucherov (RW) had three assists, all on the powerplay, to register only his second multi-point effort in his last 12 games (1G / 9A / 10PTS). The Lightning had gone 0 for 13 on the powerplay in their last three games before going 3 for 5 on Tuesday.

After having lost eight of 11 games (3-7-1), the Minnesota Wild have turned things around drastically and picked up their seventh straight victory with a 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Marc-Andre Fleury (G) made 32 of 33 saves in the victory to improve to 2-0-0 in his Wild career. Joel Eriksson Ek (C) had two assists in the victory to extend his point streak to four games (1G / 4A / 5PTS). Kirill Kaprizov (LW, RW) scored the game-winning goal for the Wild to give him goals in four consecutive games (5G / 1A / 6PTS).
Vatrano stays hot for Rangers
Frank Vatrano (LW, RW) scored once again for the New York Rangers to give him five goals (5G / 0A) in his last five games. Chris Kreider (LW, RW) scored two points (1G / 1A) including the game-winning goal in the 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins to give him 45 goals on the season and extend his point streak to five games (5G / 4A / 9PTS).
