Daily Faceoff Morning Report — 04/12/22

The Daily Faceoff Morning Report will be released on weekdays, recapping the key news and events from the day before.
We will highlight injuries that will affect today’s games, hot streaks, cold streaks, and anything relevant for everyone from the casual hockey fan to the Fantasy Hockey grinder.
Jets stay alive
The Winnipeg Jets defeated the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 in the lone game in the NHL Monday night. The Jets have won two straight games and are clinging to playoff relevancy as they move to five points back of the second Wild Card position-Dallas Stars, who have played two fewer games. Morgan Barron (C, LW) played his sixth game as a Jet, filling in for the injured Mark Scheifele (C), centring a line with Nikolaj Ehlers (LW, RW) and Paul Stastny (C, LW). Barron had a big night, recording his first two points as a Jet (1G / 1A).

Ehlers (0G / 1A) and Stastny (1G / 0A) also found their way onto the scoresheet. Ehlers extended his point streak to seven games (5G / 7A / 12PTS) while Stastny reached the 20-goal mark for the first time since 2013-14 in his final season with the Colorado Avalanche. Evgeny Svechnikov (LW, RW) snapped a 10-game pointless skid and 19-game goalless drought with his seventh goal of the season. Svechnikov only has four points (1G / 3A) in his last 20 games but played 15:58 on Monday, his fourth-highest ice time this season, and could continue to be relied upon more heavily if Scheifele is unable to return to the lineup. Josh Anderson (RW) scored his 18th goal of the season in the loss for the Canadiens, the 100th goal of his career. Anderson has four points (3G / 1A) in his last 17 games.

The Western Conference playoff race
The Los Angeles Kings, Nashville Predators, Dallas Stars, Vegas Golden Knights, and Vancouver Canucks are all in action on Tuesday night with a multitude of playoff implications on the line. Most notably, the Golden Knights will face off against the Canucks. A Canucks loss will ostensibly eliminate them from the playoff race whereas a win will not only put them in contention for a Wild Card spot but also put them within reaching distance of the Kings for third place in the Pacific Division.
