Senators win first of the year in a high-scoring affair against division-leading Bruins

Drake Batherson, Brady Tkachuk and Tim Stützle each enjoyed goal and two assist efforts as Ottawa beat Boston 7-5 to get their first victory of the 2022-23 season. 13 Senators skaters collected a point in the high-scoring game, with Alex DeBrincat leading all skaters with six SOG. Jeremy Swayman was pulled after allowing an ugly six goals on 25 shots (.760 SV%) in his second start of the season. Both Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak filled the stat sheet, each scoring a goal and adding two assists to go along with their five-plus SOG. Jake DeBrusk was the other lone Bruin to have a multi-point effort, collecting two assists.

Flyers stay undefeated in surprise comeback victory over Lightning

Carter Hart was a wall for his third straight victory stopping 36 of 38 shots in the 3-2 Flyers’ win Tuesday. Tampa Bay got out to a quick two-goal lead off the back of two Steven Stamkos (5,6) power-play goals, both assisted by Nikita Kucherov.

Philadelphia struck back with three unanswered goals by Scott Laughton (2), James Van Riemsdyk (1), and Noah Cates (1) to move to 3-0-0 to start 2022-23.

Canucks blow fourth straight multi-goal lead in losing overtime effort to Columbus

Each team collected their first points of the season as Columbus came back from an early two-goal deficient to beat Vancouver 4-3 in overtime on Tuesday.

Elvis Merlzikins shined, stopping 32 of 35 shots (.914 SV%) while collecting his first win of the year. Johnny Gaudreau enjoyed his first multi-point game as a member of CBJ with a goal (2) and an assist (2). Vladislav Gavrikov scored the overtime winner to add to his assist on the night. Boone Jenner, Jakub Voracek and Yegor Chinakov each enjoyed multi-assist performances in the win. Vancouver’s captain Bo Horvat scored twice (1,2) in the losing effort, with Elias Pettersson joining him as the other Canuck to enjoy a multi-point effort (1G/1A).

Sharks stay winless as Islanders win easily on multi-goal effort from Wahlstrom

Semyon Varlamov got his first win of the season on a 26-save (.929 SV%) standout performance as the Islanders topped the Sharks 5-2. Oliver Wahlstrom led all skaters with six SOG, scoring twice (2,3), including the GWG. Brock Nelson, Noah Dobson and Adam Pelech each had two assists in the game. James Reimer stopped 41 of 45 shots (.911 SV%) in the loss. Evgeny Svechnikov was the lone Shark with multiple points, scoring a goal (2) and assist (1) to go along with his four SOG.

Devils erase Ducks’ early lead to win their first of the season

Mackenzie Blackwood earned his first win of 2022-23 with a light 18 save performance (.900 SV%) in a 5-2 Devils’ win Tuesday. Jakob Silfverberg scored his first two goals of the season (1,2) in the first period to get Anaheim off to a quick 2-0 lead. New Jersey answered back with four straight goals from Ondrej Palat (1), Nico Hischier (1), Dougie Hamilton (2) and Dawson Mercer (1). Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt each picked up a pair of assists in the victory.

Flames keep their undefeated record intact in the battle of Pacific Division leaders

It only took 19 saves for Jacob Markstrom to earn his second win of the season as Calgary topped Vegas 3-2 in a tight battle. Vegas jumped out to the lead early on a pair of first-period goals by William Carrier (1) and Brett Howden (1). Logan Thompson continued his incredibly impressive rookie campaign, stopping 37 of 40 shots (.925 SV%), with some remarkable saves along the way.

Calgary did most of their damage on the power play as Elias Lindholm (2), and Tyler Toffoli (2) both tallied power-play markers assisted by Jonathan Huberdeau. Mikael Backlund added a late third-period goal (2) to seal the victory for the undefeated Flames.

Sabres steal win from Edmonton as Comrie stands on his head

It took 46 saves (.958 SV%) for Eric Comrie to steal the 4-2 win as Buffalo was outplayed by Edmonton nearly all night. Stuart Skinner opposed Comrie for the Oilers, allowing three goals on 23 shots (.870 SV%) while watching his team lose their second game in a row. Buffalo spread their scoring out with Rasmus Dahlin (3), Tage Thompson (1), Alex Tuch (2) and JJ Peterka (2), all adding goals in the victory. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were both held to four shots and an assist in the losing effort. Darnell Nurse and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a goal and seven shots leading the way for Edmonton.

Kings hand Saros, Predators third straight loss in shootout victory

Cal Peterson stopped 29 of 32 shots, including all shootout attempts, as the Kings handed Nashville their third straight loss in a 4-3 shootout win. Gabe Vilardi continued his hot start to 2022-23, scoring his fourth of the season, while Matt Roy was the unexpected hero, adding two straight third-period goals (1,2) to bring the Kings to a tie after regulation. Juuse Saros continued his struggles this season, moving to 1-2-1 after allowing three goals on 35 shots (.914) in the loss. Nashville got goals from Cody Glass (1), Filip Forsberg (2) and Tanner Jeannot (1), while Mikael Granlund was the lone Predator to have multiple points with his two assists.
