Banged-up Panthers hold off pesky Flyers

Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 31 of 34 shots (.912) to move to 2-1-0 on the season as the Florida Panthers knocked off the previously undefeated Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 on Wednesday. The Panthers got out to an early lead off the back of two Carter Verhaeghe goals (1,2) both assisted by Aleksander Barkov.

Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Bennett joined Barkov by also collecting two helpers on the night. Rudolfs Balcers (1) and Josh Mahura (1) added the other two Panthers’ goals. The Flyers were coming off a back-to-back, so Felix Sandstrom got his first start of the season, and he struggled, allowing four goals on 35 shots (.886 SV%) in the loss. Travis Konecny continued his hot start attempting to aid his young netminder with a goal (4) and an assist to go along with his team-leading six SOG. Kevin Hayes was the only other Flyer with multiple points (2A), while James Van Riemsdyk scored (2) to give him five points (2G/3A) on the season.

Jets, Pionk, top Avalanche in overtime thriller

Just 30 seconds into overtime, Neal Pionk scored his second goal of the game (1,2) to push his Winnipeg Jets past the Colorado Avalanche 4-3.

Cole Perfetti scored his first goal of the season and added an assist to the excitement of many hopeful Jets fans. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 30 of 33 shots (.909 SV%) to win his second game of the season. Mason Appleton rewarded Winnipeg with his move into the top-6 (due to Nikolaj Ehlers’ injury) by collecting his first two assists of the season. Alexandar Georgiev battled the puck all night, allowing four goals on 28 shots against (.857 SV) as his undefeated streak ends after three games. Mikko Rantanen scored two goals (2,3) and added an assist to bring his season total to nine points (3G/6A) in four games as he continues his scorching start to 2022-23. Valeri Nichuskin was the other lone Avalanche player with double-digit points, scoring in his fourth straight game (5) and adding an assist to go along with his team-leading four SOG. He now leads the NHL in goals and has eight points (5G/3A) in four games.

Blues steal back-and-forth battle in Seattle with Faulk’s overtime winner

Justin Faulk scored his second goal of the game (1,2) two minutes into overtime as St.Louis beat Seattle 4-3.

Jordan Binnington shined again, winning his second straight start by stopping 32 of 35 shots against (.914 SV%). Brayden Schenn was moved into the top-6 before game time due to an injury to Pavel Buchnevich and answered with a goal (1) and an assist in his second consecutive multi-point effort. Vladimir Tarasenko led all skaters with three assists to collect his fifth point (2G/3A) in only two games. Robert Thomas joined him as the other Blue to finish with multiple assists as he had two across 21:24 TOI Wednesday. Martin Jones struggled in goal for Seattle, allowing four goals on 28 shots (.857 SV%) while getting goals from unexpected sources, Ryan Donato (1), Will Borgen (1), and Adam Larsson (2). Alexander Wennberg and Oliver Bjorkstrand each collected two assists in the losing effort.
