Canadiens score five straight, crush Coyotes at home
The Canadiens spread out their scoring through six different scorers as Josh Anderson (2), Cole Caufield (4), Brandon Gallagher (1), Juraj Slafkovsky (1), Nick Suzuki (3), and Sean Monahan (2) all contributed with goals in the win. Off the six goals, there were amazingly only three assists recorded.

The Coyotes got a pair of consolation goals in the third period as J.J. Moser scored his first of the season and his fourth point (1G/3A) in as many games. Travis Boyd scored the other Coyotes goal (1) while adding an assist in the loss. The Coyotes are right where they want to be, tied for last place in the NHL, while Connor Bedard leads the WHL in goals (10) and points (21).
Jarry stands on his head as Penguins pummel Kings
Tristian Jarry was a brick wall, stopping 39 of 40 shots (.975 SV%) as the Pittsburgh Penguins handled the Los Angeles Kings 6-1 at home on Thursday. Surprisingly only one Penguin finished with multiple points as Jeff Petry led Pittsburgh with a powerplay goal (1) and two assists while filling the stat sheet with three SOG, five Hits and two blocked shots. Pittsburgh received goals from Richard Rakell (2), Jan Rutta (1) Jeff Petry (1), Jeff Carter (2) and Ryan Poehling (1) while having all but five players get at least one point. The Kings broke Jarry’s shutout with minutes left in the third off a powerplay goal from Carl Grundstrom (1). Brandon Lemieux was a force in the loss leading all skaters with six SOG and five hits in only 14:11 TOI.
Jackets storm back with four third period goals to top Predators
Johnny Gaudreau continued his hot start in Columbus, scoring twice (3,4) in the third period on Thursday as Columbus scored four straight to beat the Nashville Predators 5-3 at home. Nick Blankenburg got his first points of the season with a goal (1) and an assist as Yegor Chinakhov joined him as the other Blue Jacket to end with multiple points (2A). Yakov Trenin was one of three Predator skaters with multiple points as he scored a goal (1) and added assist in the loss. Tanner Jeannot had a similar goal (2) and assist statline with Colton Sissons joining them as the third Predator with two points (2A). Kevin Lankinen stood on his head early on before falling apart late, and ultimately giving up four goals on 41 shots (.902 SV%).
Devils pepper Islanders in 4-1 thrashing
Mackenzie Blackwood only needed to make 16 saves on 17 shots as the New Jersey Devils beat the New York Islanders 4-1 Thursday. Ilya Sorokin stopped 39 of 42 shots (.941 SV%) in a losing effort, as the puck failed to leave the Islanders’ zone consistently throughout the night. Nico Hischier added a goal (2) and two assists as he led all skaters with three points on five SOG on the night. Jack Hughes scored his first of the season on a team-high seven shots, while Ondrej Palat potted two goals (2,3) in the winning effort. Jesper Bratt was the other Devil finishing with multiple points as he collected two assists to get to seven points (0G/7A) through four games.
Robertson strikes twice in electric debut as Leafs top Stars in overtime
It was a perfect debut for Nick Robertson, who scored an overtime game-winning goal to go along with a third-period tying goal as he lead the Leafs’ to a 3-2 overtime win.

Ilya Samsonov got his third win in as many starts as he stopped 26 of 28 shots (.929 SV%). Michael Bunting was the other Maple Leaf to finish with multiple points, as he ended with two assists on the night. Scott Wedgewood was strong in his season debut, stopping 40 of 43 shots (.929 SV%) in the loss. Tyler Seguin scored one of the Stars’ two goals (2) as he continued his hot start with his fifth point (2G/3A) in four games.
Ullmark stays undefeated as Bruins beat Ducks in a low scoring affair
In a goaltending battle on Thursday, Linus Ullmark stopped 30 of 31 shots (.968 SV%) to move to 3-0-0 as the Boston Bruins topped the Anaheim Ducks 2-1 in overtime on home ice. John Gibson was the unfortunate losing goalie after stopping 35 of 36 shots (.972 SV%). Taylor Hall (2) had the lone Bruins goal, while Frank Vatrano (3) was the only Duck to beat Ullmark.
Canucks blow fifth straight lead as Wild steal overtime victory
For the fifth straight game, the Vancouver Canucks have blown a lead and lost as Marc-Andre Fleury, and the Wild stole a 4-3 overtime victory on Thursday. Kirill Kaprizov scored the overtime winner (4) with his two assists and a team-leading seven SOG. Kaprizov is up to eight points (3G/5A) in four games to start the season. Mats Zuccarello also filled the stat sheet, tying Kaprizov with seven SOG to go along with his two goals (3,4) and an assist across 22:35 TOI. He’s tied with Kaprizov for the team-lead with eight points (4G/4A), tied for fourth in the NHL. The fourth line did the damage for the Canucks, as Nils Aman and Dakota Joshua led the way with a goal and an assist each. The first points of the season for both skaters.
Sharks win first of the year in surprise overtime upset over Rangers
James Reimer stopped 21 of 23 shots (.913 SV%) as the San Jose Sharks won their first game of the 2022-23 season to move to 1-5-0, topping the New York Rangers 3-2 in overtime. Erik Karlsson scored an overtime goal (2) and added an assist as he led all Sharks in ice time (23:54). Igor Shesterkin struggled in the start, allowing three goals on 27 shots (.889) in the loss. Artemi Panarin scored his league-leading 11th point (3G/8A) with a goal in the second period.
Batherson, Senators beat struggling Capitals at home
Drake Batherson scored two goals (2,3) with four SOG to lead the Senators over the 2-3-0 Washington Capitals. Tyler Motte (1G/1A), Alex DeBrincat (1G/1A), and Brady Tkachuk (2A) were the three other players to finish with multiple points for Ottawa. Tkachuk led all skaters with a massive eight SOG in the victory, and Anton Forsberg stopped 22 of 24 shots (.917 SV%) in the win. Darcy Kuemper played well all night, stopping 39 of 42 shots (.929 SV%) but lost his second of the season.
Sabres double up Flames on Tuch’s hat-trick as Comrie shines again
Eric Comrie stopped 40 of 43 shots (.930 SV%) for his second 40+ save win of the week as Buffalo beat the Calgary Flames 6-3 on the road Thursday. Alex Tuch aided in the victory, recording his first career hat-trick (3,4,5), while Rasmus Dahlin added another goal and assist to his total.

Casey Mittelstadt (1G/1A), Vinnie Hinostroza (3A), Owen Power (2A) and Jacob Bryson (2A) were the other Sabres to finish the night with multi-point performances. Jacob Markstrom was pulled early after allowing three goals on 12 shots (.750 SV%) in the loss.
Four-point performances from McDavid and RNH lift Oilers over Hurricanes
Connor McDavid scored his 10th point of the season as he collected a goal (5) and three assists in the Oilers’ 6-4 win over the previously undefeated Carolina Hurricanes. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins did his best 97 impression, as he matched his captain with a goal (2) and three assists in the win. Zach Hyman and Leon Draisaitl each added a goal and an assist, and Jack Campbell stopped 36 of 40 shots for his second win as a member of the Oilers. Andrei Svechnikov did his best to keep Carolina in the game scoring a hat-trick (4,5,6) on a game-leading seven SOG. Sebastion Aho (3A), Brent Burns (2A) and Martin Necas (1G/1A) were the other Hurricane skaters to reach multiple points in the loss. Frederik Andersen struggled for the first time in 2022-23 as he allowed five goals on 32 shots (.844 SV%), marking the first time he has allowed more than one goal in a game this season.
Eichel, Hill stand out as Vegas beats Winnipeg
Playing in the second half of a back-to-back, the Winnipeg Jets were handled easily on Thursday as Adin Hill stopped 26 of 28 shots (.929 SV%) in a 5-2 Vegas victory. Jack Eichel led the Golden Knights with two goals (2,3), and both Jonathan Marchessault and William Karlsson added a goal and an assist. Winnipeg struggled to get things going, but Neal Pink stayed hot with another multi-point effort (1G/1A) and four hits in 21:41 TOI.
