Sorokin carries Islanders to win over Rangers

Ilya Sorokin proves time and time again that he lives to play against the New York Rangers, proven by his 41-save shutout Wednesday In his career, Sorokin is now 3-1-0 with a sparkling 1.99 GAA and .938 SV% against the Rangers.

Kyle Palmieri scored his first two goals of the season (1,2) while potting the game-winning goal halfway through the first period. Josh Bailey joined Palmieri as the other Islanders’ goal scorer (1). Meanwhile, Adam Pelech and Jean-Gabriel Pageau each had two assists in the low-scoring affair. Jaroslav Halak lost his third straight start after stopping 26 of 29 shots (.897 SV%), while Adam Fox led all Rangers players in ice time (24:28) and SOG (5).

Skinner continues hot start as Oilers hand Blues second straight loss

Stuart Skinner entered Wednesday’s matchup fourth in the NHL in SV% (.944) and only improved his phenomenal numbers by stopping 37 of 38 shots (.974 SV%) as Edmonton beat St. Louis 3-1. Jesse Puljujarvi (1), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (4) and Zach Hyman (3) scored the Oilers’ goals. You had to know that Connor McDavid wasn’t going to be held off the scoresheet for three straight games. In the victory, he snapped a mini two-game slump with an assist and four shots on goal.

Jordan Binnington was strong again in the unfortunate losing effort, stopping 25 of 27 shots as he took his first loss of the 2022-23 season (3-1-0). Ryan O’Reilly had the lone Blues goal (1) to get his first point of the season while leading all St.Louis forwards with five SOG across 21:33 TOI.

Big third period propels Tampa Bay over a spiralling Anaheim team

Brandon Hagel (3) scored a late third-period goal to hand the Anaheim Ducks their sixth straight loss as they moved to 1-5-1, watching their season crumble beneath them early on.

Brian Elliott secured the win off minimal effort as he stopped 19 of 21 shots (.905 SV%) to earn his second victory of the season. Mikhail Sergachev had a goal (1) and an assist to bring his early season totals to six points (1G/5A) in eight games. Victor Hedman added two assists to give him seven in seven helpers in eight games. Nick Paul joined him as the other Lightning scorer to have multiple points, scoring a goal (2) and adding an assist while leading all forwards with three blocked shots. John Gibson continued his rough start to the season, losing his fifth straight start while only stopping 26 of 29 shots (.897 SV%). Troy Terry was the lone Duck with multiple points as he led all Anaheim skaters with four SOG while adding a goal (4) and an assist to the strong nine points(4G/5A) he’s collected through seven games this season.
