Thompson’s six points helps Sabres destroy Red Wings
Tage Thompson had the fantasy performance of the year so far as he scored a hat-trick (4,5,6) and added three assists to bring his season total to 12 points (6G/6A) through nine games as he led the Sabres over the Red Wings 8-3.

Jeff Skinner had a goal (2) and two assists, while Rasmus Dahlin added to his NHL lead for goals (6) by a defenseman while also adding an assist to move to 12 points in his first nine games. Kyle Okposo was the other Sabres skater with multiple points, finishing with a pair of assists in the win. Alex Nedeljkovic allowed six or more goals for his second straight start, allowing eight goals on 48 shots (.826 SV%) for his third consecutive loss. Olli Maatta (2), David Perron (5) and Dylan Larkin (5) had the three goals for Detroit.
Anderson shines in shootout as Hurricanes take close one against Capitals
Frederik Andersen stopped 18 of 20 shots (.900 SV%) for his fourth victory of the season (4-2-0) as Carolina topped Washington 3-2 in a shootout. Stefan Noesen (1) scored the first for the Hurricanes, followed by Andrei Svechnikov (8), who is now second in the NHL in goals. Martin Necas continued his breakout campaign, adding two assists to get to 13 points (5G/8A) through nine games. Darcy Kuemper stopped 33 of 35 shots (.943 SV%) in regulation and overtime but was beaten on two of three shootout attempts. Dylan Strome (2) and Alex Ovechkin (5) had the two goals for the Capitals.
Grundstrom and Vilardi boost Kings over Blues in easy road victory
Jonathan Quick had his best start of the season Monday as he stopped 27 of 28 shots (.964 SV%) to lead the 6-5-0 Kings to their second win in a row. Gabe Vilardi continued his scorching start to the season as he picked up a goal (8) and an assist to bring his team lead in points to 13 (8G/5A) in 11 games.

Carl Grundstrom had a surprising two-goal performance (2,3) after leading the Kings in SOG (4) and blocked shots (3). Kevin Fiala was the other Kings standout, finishing with three assists and a plus-3 rating to bring his early Kings totals to 12 points (2G/10A) in 11 games. Jordan Binnington continued his ice-cold play, getting yanked in the second period after allowing five goals on 19 shots (.737 SV%) to earn his third loss in a row. Alexey Toropchenko was the lone Blue to find the back of the net, scoring his first of the season.
