Kallgren stands tall for first win as Toronto tops Carolina
With Ilya Samsonov going on IR on Sunday and Matt Murray still expected to be out for an extended period, Erik Kallgren got a taste of life as a No.1 in the NHL in Carolina. He responded with an incredible 29-save (.967 SV%) performance for his first win of the year as Toronto beat Carolina 3-1. The Maple Leafs spread out their scoring as John Tavares scored his team-leading eighth goal with the game-winner while Calle Jarnkrok (3), and William Nylander (5) each added goals themselves.

Frederik Anderson struggled against his former team, allowing three goals on only 21 shots (.857 SV%) as his brief two-game winning streak was snapped. Since signing with the Hurricanes, Andersen is 1-2-1, allowing 11 goals on 99 shots (.889 SV%) in four games vs. Toronto. Stefan Noesen was the lone Hurricane scorer with a power-play goal (2) in the first period. Despite playing on the fourth line, Noesen has picked up six points (2G / 4A) in his last 10 games, with four of those points coming on the power-play.
Red Wings win third straight as they get the better of New York in overtime

Matt Luff (1) and Pius Suter (3) scored the Red Wings’ other two goals early in the second period, while Mo Seider continued to break out of his early season slump picking up two assists. He now has four helpers in his last four games. Jaroslav Halak continued his winless streak, allowing three goals on 36 shots (.917 SV%) to move to 0-3-1 on the season. Kappo Kakko (3) got the Rangers on the board early in the first period and Mika Zibanejad added a power-play goal a few minutes later.
Panthers end California road-trip with win in Anaheim
Spencer Knight continued his strong start to the 2022-23 season, moving to 4-1-0 as he stopped 32 of 35 shots (.914 SV%) in the Panthers’ 5-3 win over Anaheim. After scoring 33 goals last season, Sam Reinhart finally found the net for the first time this year, scoring twice (1,2) in his 13th game.

Brandon Montour continued to fill in admirably for the injured Aaron Ekblad as he grabbed a goal (4) and three assists to bring his season totals to an impressive 12 points (4G/8A) in 10 games. Carter Verhaeghe stayed red-hot with a goal and an assist, giving up 11 points (6G/5A) in his last seven games. Anton Lundell moved up the lineup to play with Reinhart and had two assists, giving him seven points (1G/6A) in his last eight games. John Gibson was under constant pressure, facing 40-plus shots for the fourth time in 10 games. He allowed four goals on 47 shots (.915 SV%) for his league-high seventh loss of the season. Ryan Strome was the lone Ducks standout, as he had a goal (4) and an assist to bring him to 10 points (4G/6A) in his first 12 games since joining Anaheim in the offseason.
