Sandstrom picks up first career win as Flyers hand Blues eighth straight loss

Felix Sandstrom was thrown into the starter’s crease unexpectedly after it was announced late that Carter Hart would miss the game due to illness. He stepped up for his first career victory, stopping 28 of 29 shots (.964 SV%) to beat the Blues 5-1. Noah Cates (2), Owen Tippett (3), and Travis Konecny (5) all scored for the Flyers and added an assist as each enjoyed two-point efforts in the win. Thomas Greiss struggled, allowing five goals on 35 shots (.857 SV%) as the Blues lost their eighth straight game. Ryan O’Reilly scored the Blues’ lone goal (2), picking up his first point in six games.

Vejmelka strong for a third straight start as Coyotes take W in Buffalo

Karel Vejmelka stopped 32 of 33 shots (.970 SV%) on his way to his third straight win (4-3-1) as Arizona topped Buffalo 4-1 on the road. Lawson Crouse scored his team-leading sixth goal just 23 seconds into the game followed by Matias Maccelli’s first goal of the season as he also added an assist to bring his impressive rookie numbers to nine points (1G/8A) in 12 games. Clayton Keller joined Maccelli as the other Coyote player with a goal (4) and an assist as he extended his team lead in points to 13 points (4G/7A) in 12 games. Eric Comrie took his second straight loss allowing three goals on 23 shots (.870 SV%), while Tage Thompson added his seventh goal (8) in his last six games with the lone Sabres marker while also adding four SOG.

Montreal ends Red Wings’ win streak by stealing shootout victory

Jake Allen made it abundantly clear he was not going to let the Canadiens lose for a fourth straight game Tuesday, stopping 41 of 43 shots (.953 SV%) as he led Montreal over Detroit 3-2 in a shootout. Mike Hoffman scored both Canadiens goals (2,3) while sharing the team lead in shots with five. Brendan Gallagher picked up two assists on both goals finding himself on the scoresheet for the first time in four games. Ville Husso continued to build on his strong start allowing two goals on 33 shots (.939 SV%) as he took the unfortunate loss to move to 5-1-2. Lucas Raymond scored for the third time in four games (5), and Austin Czarnik added his first goal of the season to get the Red Wings a point after three periods. Red Wings’ forward Matt Luff is expected to miss a considerable amount of time after being hit from behind by Juraj Slafkovsky. The rookie forward was issued a five-minute major and a game misconduct for the hit.

Hischier propels New Jersey to seventh straight win as Devils win nail-biter vs. the Flames

Just days after being announced the full-time starter due to a Mackenzie Blackwood injury, Vitek Vanecek stood on his head, stopping 35 of 37 shots (.946 SV%) and moving to 6-1-0 as New Jersey won its seventh straight game, beating Calgary 3-2 at home. Nico Hischier (6) had the game-winning goal and added an assist, as he now has an impressive 14 points (6G/8A) through the first 12 games of the season. Dougie Hamilton scored a goal (3) and an assist to get himself to double-digit points (3G/7A) in 13 games, while Ryan Graves (3) added the other Devils marker in the win. Tomas Tater picked up two assists while only playing 14:14 TOI. Jacob Markstrom took his fifth straight loss as his rough 2022-23 season continued (4-3-2), allowing three goals on 20 shots (.850 SV%). Nazem Kadri continued his point-per-game pace with his first-period powerplay goal (7), followed by a Tyler Toffoli (5) powerplay goal in the third period. Rasmus Andersson was the lone Flame to finish with multiple points, having two powerplay assists in the loss.

Campbell bounces back as Edmonton tops Tampa Bay to end losing streak

Jack Campbell finished with a save percentage above .900 for the first time in four starts, stopping 35 of 37 shots as he led the Oilers over the Lightning 3-2. McDavids’ point streak reached eight games Tuesday as he scored (14) and added an assist to bring his NHL lead in points to 29 points (14G/15A) in 14 games. Leon Draisaitl also padded his second-place ranking in points by scoring a goal (9), as he now is up to 26 points (9G/15A) in 14 GP. Andrei Vasilevskiy continued his subpar season, moving to 4-4-1 while allowing four goals on 30 shots (.867 SV%). Brandon Hagel scored his fifth goal of the season to move to an impressive 11 points (5) through 13 games as he continues to settle on the Lightnings’ top line while Brayden Point assisted on both goals in the losing effort. Unfortunately for the Oilers, it looks like Evander Kane is going to miss some time after having his arm cut by Pat Maroon’s skate in the second period. (⚠️ viewer discretion is advised)

Kane released a tweet this morning saying that he won’t be back next game but will be back this season.

Winnipeg wins their sixth game in seven tries as they crush Dallas at home

Connor Hellebuyck continued his Vezina-worthy season, stopping 21 of 22 shots (.955 SV%) to move to 7-2-1 as Winnipeg beat Dallas easily 5-1 at home Tuesday. Mark Scheifele picked up a pair of goals (7,8) to extend his early team lead in the category while Kyle Connor led all skaters with three assists as he continues to bounce back after a slow start to the season. Mason Appleton enjoyed his second multi-point performance of the season as he scored a goal (1) and added two assists in the win. Scott Wedgewood took his first loss since becoming the Stars starter in the absence of Jake Oettinger, allowing four goals on 32 shots (.876 SV) and moving to 3-3-1 on the season. Jason Robertson had the lone Stars goal (9) as he moved up to fifth in the NHL in points with 19 points (9G/10A) in 13 games.

Islanders win in come-from-behind fashion, again

Semyon Varlamov is a known Rangers killer and continued his domination of the Islanders’ inner state rival with a 37 save (.925 SV%) winning performance. Kyle Palmieri (5). Adam Pelech (1), Brock Nelson (6) and Anders Lee (8) each had goals in the win, while Zach Parise led all Islanders with two assists. Igor Shesterkin took his second straight loss allowing four goals on 26 shots (.846 SV%) as he moved to 6-2-2 on the season. Vincent Trocheck had a goal (5) and added an assist to get to 11 points (5G/6A) through 14 games, while Artemi Panarin added two assists to move to fifth in the NHL in points with 19 (5G/12A) through 14 GP. Chris Kreider extended his point streak to six games with a second-period powerplay goal (5) as he also finished the game with three hits.

Pacific leading Golden Knights hold off Maple Leafs in overtime victory

Logan Thompson continued his impressive Calder Trophy campaign stopping 31 of 34 shots (.903 SV%) to move to 7-2-0 as the Vegas Golden Knights won 4-3 on the road Tuesday. Reilly Smith was the Golden Knights’ hero in the win, scoring both the game-tying goal in the third period shorthanded and picking up the game-winning goal (6,7) just seconds into overtime. Jack Eichel (6) and Nicolas Roy (4) had the other two Vegas goals, while William Karlsson added two assists. Erik Kallgren took his third overtime loss of the season to move to 1-1-3, allowing four goals on only 20 shots (.800 SV%) while facing five breakaways from the Golden Knights. Timothy Liljergren surprisingly led the Maple Leafs with two goals (1,2) as he played in only his third game since returning from injury. Mitch Marner had a goal (3) and an assist as he moved to 16 points (3G/13A) in 14 games so far in 2022-23.

Horvat continues to light the lamp as Canucks top Senators

Spencer Martin allowed four goals on 41 shots (.902 SV%) to pick up his third straight win in his second straight start with six goals in support as Vancouver beat Ottawa 6-4 Tuesday in a high-scoring affair. Bo Horvat potted two goals (11,12) to get that much closer to Connor McDavid’s NHL-leading 15 goals. Elias Pettersson continued his incredibly strong start to the season, adding a goal (6) and an assist to bring his team lead in points to 17 points (6G/11A) through 13 games. Ilya Mikheyev (4), Jack Studnicka (1) and Oliver Ekman-Larsson (1) picked up the remaining Vancouver goals. Cam Talbot failed to pick up his first win of the season as he moved to 0-2-0 after allowing five goals on 22 shots (.815 SV%). Tim Stutzle had a goal (4) and an assist as he now has five points in his last three games as he continues to heat up. Drake Batherson (4), Travis Hamonic (1) and Claude Giroux (7) had the remaining Ottawa goals, while Alex DeBrincat led the team with two assists as he now sits on nine total on the season after 12 games.

Quick shuts out Wild in low-scoring affair

Jonathan Quick stopped all 21 shots to pick up his first shutout of the season, moving to 5-4-1 in a low scoring 1-0 victory over the Minnesota Wild Tuesday. Gabe Vilardi continued his breakout campaign scoring the only goal of the game as he potted his 10th marker to place him third in the NHL in goals. Marc-Andre Fleury got no offensive help as he lost his second game in a row in a hard-luck loss allowing one goal on 30 shots (.967 SV%) to move to 5-3-1 in 2022-23. Kaprizov was given a match penalty in the second period for cross-checking Drew Doughty in the face.

Jones stays hot as Kraken win fifth straight over Predators

Martin Jones stopped 24 of 25 shots (.960 SV%) to win his fourth straight start and move to 7-3-1 as Seattle beat Nashville 5-1 on the road Tuesday. Jordan Eberle had two goals for the Kraken as he is now up to double-digit points (3G/7A) after 14 games, while Brandon Tanev (3) and William Borgan (1) also scored. Andre Burakovsky led Seattle’s offensive attack adding to his team lead in points, scoring a goal (4) and two assists to get to 13 points (4G/9A) through 14 GP. Juuse Saros (3-7-1) had the worst start of his eight-year career, allowing four goals on only six shots (.333 SV%) before getting pulled in the first period and inevitably taking the loss.
