Knight shuts out Hurricanes at home

Spencer Knight was perfect Wednesday, stopping 40 of 40 shots to move to 5-1-0 as Florida beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-0.

Nick Cousins (1), Aleksander Barkov (3) and Sam Bennett (3) had the three Panthers’ goals, with Bennett also picking up an assist along with a team-high six hits and four SOG. Brandon Montour added three assists to move to third in the NHL in points among defensemen with 15 (4G/11A) through 12 games. Antti Raanta stopped 33 of 35 shots (.943 SV%) as he took his first regulation loss of the season, moving to 3-1-1.

Penguins snap seven-game losing streak as they top Capitals on the road

Casey DeSmith picked up his first win of the 2022-23 season (1-3-1), stopping 24 of 25 shots (.960 SV%) to snap the Penguins’ seven-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over Washington. Jason Zucker (3), Brock McGinn (2), Jeff Petry (2) and Jake Guentzel (7) scored Pittsburgh’s four goals. Pittsburgh finished the game down to three defensemen after Jan Rutta (upper-body), Pierre-Olivier Joseph (lower-body) and Jeff Petry (undisclosed) left with injuries. Darcy Kuemper took his fourth straight loss to move to 4-6-1 on the season after allowing three goals on 27 shots (.889 SV%). Marcus Johansson (4) scored the lone Capitals goal on the night.

Dach stays hot as Canadiens wallop Canucks

Sam Montembeault continued his strong start to the season, stopping 31 of 33 shots (.939 SV%) to move to 3-1-1 as Montreal took down Vancouver 5-2. Kirby Dach scored two goals (3,4) to continue his recent hot run, as the centre now has eight points (3G/5A) in his last six games. Nick Suzuki opened the scoring on the night with a powerplay goal (9) just 55 seconds in and later added an assist to build on his team lead in points, as he now stands at 17 points through 14 games.

Arber Xhekaj (2) and Mike Hoffman (4) added the other two Montreal goals. Vancouver responded in the third with two goals from Luke Schenn (1) and Nils Hoglander (1), while Elias Pettersson picked up an assist to bring his Canucks’ team lead in points to 18 points (6G/12A) in 14 games. Thatcher Demko picked up his seventh regulation loss of the season as he now is second among all goaltenders in the NHL in the unfortunate stat after struggling yet again, allowing five goals on 29 shots (.828 SV%) to move to 1-7-2 early on.

Kaprizov powers Wild over struggling Ducks

Filip Gustavsson picked up his first win of the season (1-3-0), stopping 31 of 32 shots (.969 SV%) as Minnesota handed Anaheim their third loss in four games with a 4-1 victory Wednesday. Kirill Kaprizov scored two goals (9,10) on a game-high nine SOG to move to 15 points (10G/5A) through 13 games as he leads Minnesota in scoring as most expected this season. Mathew Dumba and Joseph Cramarossa both picked up their first goals of the 2022-23 season to fill out the Wild’s scoring on the night. John Gibson took his NHL-leading eighth loss as he allowed four goals on 39 shots (.897 SV%) as his nightmarish season (2-8-1) continued. Pavol Regenda had the lone Ducks’ goal as he scored his first of the season, while Trevor Zegras led all Anaheim skaters with six SOG. Zegras also scored a “Michigan” style goal, but it was disallowed due to offsides.
