Isles stay hot with win in Ottawa
The Islanders topped the Senators 4-2, winning for the eighth time in their last 10 games. The Islanders have dominated the Senators over the years, as Monday marked their 10th win in their last 11 games vs. Ottawa. They spread out their scoring with Oliver Wahlstrom (5), Noah Dobson (5), J-G Pageau (2), and Brock Nelson (9) all cashing in. Semyon Varlamov was a bit of a surprise starter but performed well, turning aside 36 of the 28 shots (.947 SV%) he faced. He’s now 4-2-0 with a 2.77 GAA (25th) and .920 SV% (t-16th) as the Islanders’ No.2 netminder. Claude Giroux stayed red-hot in the loss, scoring one goal with one assist, giving him five goals and six assists (11 points) during an eight-game point streak. Ottawa has now given up 3.52 goals against per game, which is seventh-worst in the NHL.
Kotchetkov perfect as Hurricane’s blank Blackhawks
Pyotr Kochetkov continued to make a strong early impression filling in for an injured Frederik Andersen, stopping all 27 shots for his first career shutout (2-0-0) as Carolina won 3-0 in Chicago. The Hurricanes’ third line carried them to victory, with Jordan Martinook and Jordan Staal cashing in with one goal and one assist in the first period.

Brent Burns picked up a pair of assists as he continues his No.1 fantasy defenseman season with 12 points (3G/9A) through 16 games. Petr Mrazek fought hard with little offensive support, stopping 29 of 32 shots (.906) but moved to 1-2-1 in a losing effort.
Binnington wins his third straight in tight game in Colorado
Jordan Binnington had his best start of the season Monday, stopping 45 of 47 shots (.957 SV%) in his third straight victory (6-5-0) as he led St. Louis over the Avalanche 3-2. The league’s lowest-scoring team, the Blues spread out their goals with markers from Robert Thomas (3), Brandon Saad (3) and Jordan Kyrou (3), while Pavel Buchnevich continued to prove impactful when healthy, picking up two assists to move to six points (1G/5A) in nine games. Alexandar Georgiev took his first loss in four starts to move to 7-2-1 after allowing three goals on 39 shots (.923 SV%). Mikko Rantanen extended his torrid run of late and current point streak to six games (8G/8A) with a goal and an assist, as he now ranks third in the NHL in points with 25 (11G/14A). Cale Makar moved to third in points among all defensemen with two assists on the night, bringing him to 18 points (3G/15A) in 14 games as he continues his run for back-to-back Norris Trophies.
Flames take narrow home victory in high scoring affair vs. Kings
Jacob Markstrom continued to struggle but won as he moved to 6-3-2 after allowing five goals on 29 shots (.828 SV%) as Calgary just narrowly edged out Los Angeles Monday. Jonathan Huberdeau snapped a five-game goalless drought by picking up his second marker of the year minutes into the game. Flames’ head coach shuffled their lines before the game, and it worked instantly, with all four lines scoring a goal in the first period. Adam Ruzicka continued to shine on the Flames’ top line picking up a goal (2) and an assist (3), as he now has four points (2G/2A) in his last two games. Tyler Toffoli picked up a goal (6) and two assists (6,7) along with four SOG, only to be outdone by Elias Lindholm’s two goals (6,7) and one assist effort (6) with five SOG.

Nazem Kadri added to his team lead in points by picking up two assists to bring him to 14 points (7G/7A) through 15 games. Jonathan Quick fought the puck all night as he snapped a three-game winning streak by allowing six goals on 30 shots (.800 SV%) in the losing effort. Arthur Kaliyev stayed hot, picking up two goals (5,6) off a team-high five SOG as he now has eight points (4G/4A) in his last eight games. Kevin Fiala continued his strong start in a Kings’ jersey since his offseason acquisition, moving to a point-per-game with a goal (6) and an assist (12) to bring him to 18 points in 18 games. Drew Doughty joined them as the third King to finish with multiple points as his two assists (8,9), his first multi-point game of the 2022-23 season.
