Devils erase early deficit to defeat Rangers

The New Jersey Devils fell behind 2-0 three minutes into the first period but scored four unanswered and defeated the Rangers 5-3 at Madison Square Garden. The win was the Devils’ 10th consecutive on the road, moving to 10-1-0 on the season. Yegor Sharangovich scored the tying goal in the first period and put a bow on the game with an empty-netter, giving him five goals and eight points in his last seven games. Jack Hughes followed up his hat trick on Saturday with one goal and a season-high eight shots on goal. Vitek Vanecek stopped 35 of 38 shots in the win, moving hi mot 11-1-0 with a .934 SV% in his last 13 appearances. Igor Shesterkin gave up four goals on 37 shots and was unhappy with his performance following the loss.

Lightning late rally leads to OT win in Buffalo

The Tampa Bay Lightning took an early 2-0 lead in Buffalo but gave up four unanswered goals to find themselves down 4-2 late in the third period. Steven Stamkos and Brandon Hagel scored in the final six minutes to tie the game and force overtime, where Stamkos would also score the winner, giving him three points (2G / 1A) on the night. Nikita Kucherov and Mikhail Sergachev each had three assists in the win. Kucherov now leads the NHL in assists (24) and sits third in points (34). Despite the loss, it was another encouraging performance for the rebuilding Sabres, who had 12 different players record a point. Tage Thompson was at it again, scoring a highlight reel goal and adding an assist. He’s now tied for fourth in the NHL in goals (14) and tied for 10th in points (28).

Murray stands tall as Maple Leafs win in Detroit

Matt Murray stopped 42 of 44 shots in the Maple Leafs’ 4-2 win over the Red Wings on Monday. It was Murray’s fourth straight win, posting an impressive .943 SV% in the process. Mitch Marner scored a second-period goal to extend his point streak to 17 games, tallying 23 points (6G / 17A) over that span. Rasmus Sandin and Auston Matthews each registered a goal and an assist in the victory. Ville Husso had a rare poor performance, getting pulled after allowing four goals on 13 shots (.692 SV%). Alex Nedeljkovic was terrific in relief, stopping all 12 shots he faced.

Golden Knights sneak out of Columbus with a win

The Golden Knights took a 2-0 first-period lead but could not beat Daniil Tarasov again until the shootout. Johnny Gaudreau scored in the second, and Boone Jenner scored in the third to lead the Blue Jackets’ rally and force overtime. The shootout would last seven rounds before Paul Cotter finished it for the Golden Knights. It was a much-needed win for the Golden Knights, who are 4-4-1 in their last nine after starting the season 13-2-0.

Wedgewood backstops Stars to win in surprise start

Jake Oettinger was scratched from his scheduled start due to illness. Scott Wedgewood filled in admirably, stopping 23 of 24 shots, including larceny on Pavel Buchnevich in the first period.

Jason Robertson was quiet for most of the game but scored a third-period goal to give the Stars a 3-1 lead and extended his point streak to 16 games. During that stretch, he has 17 goals and 12 assists (29 points). The Stars’ third line led the way for Dallas, with Wyatt Johnston and Ty Dellandrea each scoring goals, both assisted by Jamie Benn.

Third period fireworks lead to Oilers overtime win

Evan Bouchard scored with five seconds left in the third period to send Monday’s game to overtime, where Leon Draisaitl won it 0:22 seconds in.

Spencer Knight did all he could, stopping 36 of 40 shots, but Connor McDavid and Co. would not be denied. McDavid tallied one goal and two assists in the win, extending his NHL lead in points to 39 (17G / 22A) through 22 games. Zach Hyman joined him with three points (all assists). Matthew Tkachuk (1G / 1A) led the way for the Panthers as they began their road trip without Aleksander Barkov (illness).
