Marner Point streak reaches 18 as Maple Leafs beat Sharks
Ilya Samsonov did not miss a beat stopping 23 of 24 shots (.958 SV%) in his first game back from a knee injury, as Toronto beat San Jose 3-1 at home Wednesday. Mitch Marner tied the Maple Leafs’ all-time point streak record after picking up a point in his 18th straight game with an empty net goal in the late moments of the game.

Auston Matthews (12) kicked off the scoring as he extended his personal goal and point streak to three games (3G/3A). Pierre Engvall (3) picked up the game-winner with three minutes to go, and Alex Kerfoot led all skaters with two assists (8,9) in only 11:54 TOI. Aaron Dell played well in his first NHL start of the season, stopping 29 of 31 shots (.935 SV%) but ultimately picked up the loss. Matt Nieto (6) got the lone Sharks goal, while Erik Karlsson failed to pick up a point for a second straight contest but still leads all defensemen in the NHL with 32 points (11G/21A) in 26 games.
Halak snaps personal six-game losing streak as Rangers top struggling Senators
Jaroslav Halak had his best start of what’s been a rough season, stopping 35 of 36 shots (.971 SV%) to move to 1-5-1 as the Rangers beat the Senators 3-1. The Rangers spread out their scoring as Jimmy Vesey (3), Barclay Goodrow (6) and Chris Kreider (11) each scored, while Ryan Lindgren had his second multi-point game in three efforts with a three-assist (6,7,8) showing across 20:41 TOI. Cam Talbot allowed three goals on 36 shots (.917 SV%) as he moved to 3-6-0 in his first season in Ottawa. Shane Pinto became the rookie goal leader snapping an eight-game goalless drought as he grabbed his ninth marker of the year.
Anderson holds off Red Wings’ third-period comeback as Buffalo takes Detroit in shootout
Craig Anderson continued to prove age is just a number as he stopped 41 of 45 shots (.911 SV%) and moved to 5-4-0 on the season as Buffalo beat Detroit 5-4 in a shootout. Dylan Cozens led the Sabres’ scoring attack with two goals (7,8), one of which was shorthanded, and a team-high five SOG. Rasmus Dahlin moved to second in the NHL in points for a defenseman as he picked up two assists (17,18) and now has 26 points in 22 games. Mattias Samuelsson picked up his first career goal in his 65th career game, while Jeff Skinner added the other Buffalo marker with a powerplay goal (11) in the second period. Alex Nedeljkovic had a weak showing yet again, as he allowed four goals on 34 shots (.882 SV%) to move to 2-3-2 on the year. Detroit scored three third-period goals, including two from Oskar Sundqvist (2,3) and two Andrew Copp assists (10,11). Filip Hronek also picked up a pair of assists (13,14) and now has 12 points (6G/6A) in his last eight games.
Blackhawks victim of McDavid and Draisaitl’s wrath as they drop eighth straight
Stuart Skinner allowed four goals on 25 shots (.840 SV%) to squeak out a 5-4 road victory against Chicago moving to 6-5-0 as he continues to steal the Oilers’ starting gig. Connor McDavid added to his NHL lead in points with a goal (18) and an assist (23), while Leon Draisaitl also padded his second-place position in points as he led the Oilers with two goals (14,15) and an assist (21) as he now has 36 points in 23 games but still finds himself five points back of his superstar team-mate. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins continued his impressive season with a goal (10) and an assist (15) as the 29-year-old finds himself over a point per game with 25 points in his first 23 games for the first time in his 12-year career. Mattias Janmark joined in on a point night with his first multi-point performance of the season as he had a goal (1) and assist (2), while Brett Kulak also had his first with a pair of assists (5,6). Arvid Soderblom picked up his fourth straight loss as the rookie goaltender allowed five goals on 41 shots (.878 SV%), moving to 2-5-2 on the year. Max Domi’s strong comeback season continued as he added a pair of goals (6,7) and now has 16 points in 22 games. Mackenzie Entwistle joined him as a multiple-point scorer with his goal (1) and an assist (3) snapping a 13-game pointless drought.
